Hello All,
I've taken the liberty (again!) of starting our new thread for August. The merrily sort of ties in with Christmas and keeping an eye on any bargains out there, if you're super organised and like planning ahead.

Today's spends were £5.10 on travel, £1.20 on 2 bottles of water, £4.20 on 2 hot chocolates and £17.25 on a meal out (long story!).

Ill

fuzzpig · 02/08/2014 09:17

Oops.

I'll have a google to see if we have any outlets near here thanks.

You've also reminded me that we've been told the infant school will be doing more PE outside this year so they also need a tracksuit. One thing after another!

Off to google national trust/English heritage places near here. We've not been to any locally but my best friends have memberships to both and would like to take us somewhere next week. Apparently some places let DCs in for free with their membership, and we will take a picnic to minimise costs.

Baddderz · 02/08/2014 09:23

Our NT membership has just run out.
We can't afford to re do it.
Tbh we haven't really used it as much as we should have.
We are, however, considering a swim only membership at a local hotel gym...the only public pool locally is pretty manky and expensive for 4 of us.

AuditAngel · 02/08/2014 09:49

I forgot it was August yesterday and posted in July.

Yesterday wasn't too bad. Today I need diesel (running to Windsor every other day, and twice on Thursday uses a lot) but that will come back in my expenses.

Taking my mum, sister and DD2 to the theatre today. Hopefully free parking with mum's blue badge, but will need to pay for parking when I collect the kids after their second show. DSis has bought sweets for theatre so only ice creams to buy.

I need to go to the supermarket for picnic good, going to Thorpe Park tomorrow for DS's birthday next Friday, taking one of his friends. I have vouchers to get our Merlin passes, I have a print at home voucher for his friend. We tend to take picnic food and distract the kids in the queues by giving them snacks, we then also don't waste time eating instead of queuing.

Tomorrow will be expensive, but probably not as much as a party would have been.

CoolCadbury · 02/08/2014 10:35

Thank you for the new thread, cremeegg.

£22.50 for ebay purchase inc postage. Yes, it's another Lego Blush. It was an absolute bargain.

Passthecake30 · 02/08/2014 14:03

Tesco shop £52 included couple bottles of wine for in laws anniversary present. Hopefully that'll last the week.

£18.50 for kids swimming lesson and hopefully that'll be it.

If anyone has any frugal isle of Wight tips let me know? ! We went 3 and 4 years ago, kids too young to remember. Have got days out tickets (tesco) for Needles and will go Robin hill a few times as the ticket lasts a week if I recall...and I will get a food shop delivered.

Thelongdarkteatime · 02/08/2014 15:17

Thanks for the welcome. £30.70 at boots; stocking up and £4.75 for dh to take ds swimming. It's so rainy here, so a quiet day at home for the rest of the day.

thatgirloverthere · 02/08/2014 17:25

I spent loads today, took £70 out the cash machine this morning and it's all gone.

Went to the market with ds2 this morning, he likes to come along and try and get me to buy him food :) dh tried to tag along but it started to rain so we sent him back to the car to wait for us, I couldn't deal with his moaning.

I got some fab bargains, I usually do a DIY leg wax and the stuff costs around £12 a tub, I picked up four pots of Veet gel for 50p each, the instructions are all in polish but as I've used it before it doesn't really matter, I also got a Dr Scholl callus foot treatment for 50p.

Also treated myself to one of those cardigan things that they are calling a kimono, I've had my eye on one for a while and wanted to take it on holiday with us next week.

Had my hair cut and conditioned this afternoon, it's looking lovely Grin

Feeling slightly guilty as dd2 has been asking for a magazine I've never heard of for ages, I've just put Cbeebies on and its a show called swashbucklers, she is absolutely mesmerised by it and then told me that the mag comes with a pirate hat and that's why she wants it, she is six but is very young for her age. I've told her I'll get it next week if she's very good.

Passthecake30 · 02/08/2014 18:51

Shawshbucklers do a mag? thatgirl....my ds loves that show too, he's 6, starts stressing and jumping when it's the final race!

Hmmm might splurge if I see it, and save it for a bribe!

TheOnlyMrsW · 02/08/2014 18:56

Thanks for the new thread creme, £19 Lidl topping up from Aldi the other day & £90 in Asda but that did include all of dd's uniform apart from pe kit. Spendy day tmrw as taking mum and dad out for tea to say thank you for helping cover childcare this week.........but dd is away with her dad after tmrw so should be a good (cheap) week!

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/08/2014 19:06

£3 electric thingies for the lights

£6ish pizza and g&t for me.

I have lights in my lounge like normal people do now.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/08/2014 19:18

Tesco orchard are sending me vouchers for ice cream and bread in august. I'll be stashing the ice cream for Christmas.

Supermum222 · 02/08/2014 20:34

My first day of my 2 weeks off work today. DH was at work this morning and it was raining...my worst time for spending. My plan had been to take the children to a National Trust property but as it was raining I asked DS10 for ideas. Bowling. So, £13.60 on 2 games for 2 children. Then McDonald's £9. Asda later for stuff I forgot to buy on Tesco order. Got 2 kids DVD's also...£18.
I have a weekly budget each week of school hols. Hope I don't go over!!!!

Supermum222 · 02/08/2014 20:38

Badderz, our NT membership runs out this month too. Scottish one is cheaper by about £30 and you can pay by monthly direct debit. About a fiver or so. Valid in all English NT places.

Baddderz · 02/08/2014 20:43

I have decided to return a (cheap) food processor I bought in November last year.
£55 back in my account!
Tbh it will go on all the stuff for ds2s b day party, but hey, it's still progress :)

R4roger · 02/08/2014 20:48

i got about 4 packets of peppers from asda yesterday evening, each had 3 peppers in them, reduced to ... drum roll... 1p. ! yes, I was quite good only getting 4

Supermum222 · 02/08/2014 20:51

Does anyone know where I can get cheap postage for 2 small parcels? Sold 5 pairs of trousers (age 9) on eBay and 4 girls school pinafores. Took them to P.O. and they wanted £12.50 each parcel!!! Inhad only charged £5. Brought them home. Was going to go to main P.O. in town as I am sure the woman in small local one is doing it deliberately.

Baddderz · 02/08/2014 21:05

Super mum..try Hermes.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/08/2014 21:06

Hotukdeals sometimes have offers listed for cheap parcel carriers, I think there's a comparison site for parcel companies too.

You might get cashback on it too.

NK5BM3 · 02/08/2014 22:07

£8.50 for son's haircut, and £10 at heathrow for parking. Crazy.

Parents paid for dinner. £70!!!

Makingchanges · 02/08/2014 22:27

supermum I have used collect+ before. They are usually quite reasonable.

£40 on Morrisons including using The Sun meat voucher. Should last at least all week so not too bad. £30 at hairdressers. Not my usual hairdresser though and not sure I like it. Been feeling unwell all day so took the easy way out at bought DD a happy meal to avoid cooking.

CremeEggThief · 02/08/2014 22:34

Hurrah for lights in your lounge, Fluffy.

£19.45 on travel, taking my DS to the airport. He's going to stay with his dad's side of the family for a whole fortnight, which is his longest ever time away. A week is fine, but not sure how I'll cope with a fortnight (term-time worker, so haven't even got work to distract me), but I'll just have to, somehow. Also spent £6.50 or so in Costa and £1.29 on a samosa. And I did my Tesco online shop when I got home, which came to £49.19, including delivery. Just need milk and salad through the week now, as long as everything comes.
Hoping for an NSD tomorrow.

Isle of Wight tips - definitely reuse the Robin Hill ticket. They are open until 10pm at the moment with lit up woodland so nice to pop in of an evening.

The paddling pool at Ventnor is a good way to spend an hour or so and the shingle beach there is a novelty after lots of sandy ones.

There's a new ish pub near Lake Morrisons where kids eat free 3-7. Not particularly special food but perfectly edible.

Water play area in Ryde on the sea front is free and the playground on Sandown sea front is a good one.

The Griffin pub in Godshill is worth stopping in for a drink because it has a maze in the garden, a bouncy castle and an area to kick a ball around. Chequers in Niton also has a great garden for kids - and they do an awesome carvery. Fighting Cocks near Amazon World also has play equipment outside.

Hopefully the weather will be nice and you can just spend lots of time on the beach.

Parking charges aren't too bad - if I remember correctly it was £3,40 for 2-4 hours and maybe £4.50 for 4-6.

Google to see which places have carnivals on too. Last week we saw a bit of the Sandown one which was 'interesting'.

Garden centre between Lake and Sandown has fish to look at which can kill a bit of time on a wet day.

If you're sailing from Southampton go early, pop the kids in the ikea crèche then feed them meatballs in the cafe and they'll only need a sandwich for tea when you get there.

AdoraBell · 02/08/2014 23:30

Wow R4roger, never see bargains like that here and peppers are expensive so I've resorted to growing them. We're in winter so have a while before I get any off my plants.

NSD for me today, DH bought pizza's Hmm, while we were out. He still has gluten intolerance but occasionally his brain disengages completely . Dinner will be out of the freezer and not have any wheat in it.

Glad you have proper lights now FluffyGrin

Creme you'll have to schedule things to keep yourself occupied. Hope DS has a great time.

lilacclery · 03/08/2014 07:43

four new tyres yesterday completely unbudgeted for, guess that's a category I really should add to my budget. €220, €,63 on vests & socks for ds & dd and presents for hubbys grandchildren.essentials plus special wear for upcoming wedding oh & spanx for me!
Forgot some cheap flat shoes for me to wear this weekend so have borrowed from my sister. More to save me the shopping time rather than the money.

Today will be spendy again €75 for hotel & dinner at besties hen, bonus though she owes me €40. Then drinks money also, am driving for 5 hours to return home tomo so drinking won't be excessive.

Serious bargain on the wax thatgirloverthere

My eyes are watering at the back to school expenses, dd going to do a second year in playschiol @ €65 a fortnight but think I should save towards starting school the following year, would €260 a fiver a week be realistic for starting school?
