Hi All,
I couldn't see a new thread yet, so thought I'd start one for July. The jacket potato is a marker for starting summer off on a frugal note. :).

NSD so far.

Hi everyone, I hope you don't mind me joining here?

Really need to curb this spending ASAP. I went to sainsburys yday and spent £97 including nappies. I refuse to buy anything else for the next 7 days at least. This is doable right?

I'm just so annoyed I forgot to do online shopping via tcb to get some cash back!! Plus have lost my nectar card grrr! Anyways I will remember for next week. I'm looking forward to starting being frugal!

These are good threads to get you started kindle. Welcome to the thread.

Do you have an Aldi nearby? Sainsburys is a really expensive supermarket.

£5 voucher arrived for amazon so I can buy some shampoo now.

SpottyTeacakes · 27/07/2014 08:51

Welcome SmileI agree sainsburys is really expensive.

I've withdrawn £60 from topcashback that can pay for dd's school shoes.

AuditAngel · 27/07/2014 09:08

I'm using Sainsbury's at the moment, but only because they keep giving me £10 off plus free delivery. DH keeps moaning about certain products. He insists I should use Ocado (which just shows how far away from reality he lives) because they price match Tesco!

I will be going back to Tesco, I prefer the fact they price match substitutes, which Sainsbury's doesn't. They have substituted offer products for non offer ones and charge full price.

I forgot £50 yesterday for 2 pairs of Raybans. DH has just discovered them, I have misplaced mine (probably in a handbag somewhere).

lilacclery · 27/07/2014 09:08

Spendy weekend with us we're away so ate out for lunch and dinner yesterday & will eat out for the three meals today. One of which will be at the zoo, there's an aldi near hotel so will pick up snacks and babys food there at least. Zoo was included in price of hotel.

We were meant to go to Garth Brooks in Dublin but concerts didnt go ahead so we're treating kids to zoo instead.

Karbea · 27/07/2014 10:24

Dh had a doughnut for breakfast ;)

Today should be a NSD for us. Which is just as well!
I'm going to have a look at those threads and read a bit more moneysaving expert when I get a sec. My biggest problem is dh who just doesn't seem to get what a stew we're in. I've said I don't think we can buy anything really until next weekend and then I'm going to do it, and he said "what are we going to eat then???", me "doughnuts!" Hahaha.....

Karbea · 27/07/2014 10:26

I'm slightly worried my excessive hoovering is wasting a lot of electricity. How often do you Hoover? Dh swept the kitchen and hall yesterday which was a good idea.

SpottyTeacakes · 27/07/2014 10:30

£19 top up in tesco Hmm that did inude beer (which dp can bloody well pay back), sanpro and flowers to cheer me up Grin still in budget.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/07/2014 10:45

I vacuum daily and it's a shoes off at the door house but there's an unspoken lore in the family that no matter how much of a mess your making in life as long as the house is clean all is well Hmm. If only it was true.

Karbea the men take ages to come round to frugalness, Adora will say the same. It's taken me best part of four years with dh but he gets it now. I think.

I still haven't confessed that we drink sainsburys smart price tea & he probably wouldn't believe he's drunk it for 3 1/2 years.

AuditAngel · 27/07/2014 10:57

Today will be quite spendy. I am taking DS and DD1 to see their friends in Joseph. I will buy them each a programme so they can get them signed, plus they are selling water bottles for £4 and I thought it would be a nice reminder. Then f course, there is the cost of parking. Previously I just would have parked in the nearest car park. I am about to research the cheapest car parking in a reasonable walking distance. (Of course, if it is not much cheaper, then no point in walking go rages!)

Karbea · 27/07/2014 11:17

fluffy I think I will get into the habit of decanting cheaper brands into our old bottles/boxes and see if dh sees a difference. He is a bit of a shopaholic and can't leave the house without buying something, I've told him I will take his cards off him and give him an allowance if he can't curb this. Right now, I've got a pad in the island where he needs to write down what he spends!

I've used the little handheld to pick up the bits upstairs but the bigger Hoover will have to used downstairs...

SpottyTeacakes · 27/07/2014 11:41

Finally got round to doing Junes budget Blush and I've realised sky haven't charge us for our tv since I cancelled my broadband with them in May. We haven't received a letter from them or anything...

kindledrama · 27/07/2014 11:50

Thanks for the links, will look through whilst kids are watching frozen.

I have an aldi/and lidl close by. I tried it once and just couldn't get the hang of it! Random items everywhere, and I just didn't like the 'feel' of it. However I may try again considering I am trying to get rid of my debt!

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/07/2014 12:07

It's hard to switch supermarkets, I can't get the hang of lidl and I got really frustrated by it.

It's doable though. I think aldi have got better recently, I remember them 15 years ago and it was awful, really eastern bloc in its feel.

Now it's all very different.

I really ought to go and re-pot my plants now.

SpottyTeacakes · 27/07/2014 12:30

Dp has just had a whole tin of tuna in a sandwich. Wtf?? Now he's pissed off with me because I moaned about it.

kindledrama · 27/07/2014 12:32

Would you re coming aldi or lidl? I have both near me, but don't know the difference!

Passthecake30 · 27/07/2014 14:25

Just on way back from a farm. ..free and I had vouchers for free animal food. Plus took a picnic. Legoland this Thursday and Friday. ..big splurge staying in the hotel so we will be frugal for today at least Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 27/07/2014 14:29

I think aldi is more popular we don't have one though. I think with either you need to go for a couple of weeks before you decide. I find tesco cheaper as the delivery is cheaper and less stressful than almost an hour to the supermarket with two dc. Plus I can keep going back and adding/removing stuff. Oh and I'm not tempted by the fresh bakery...

Karbea · 27/07/2014 14:31

Haha spotty I would have been the same :/ dh just had some breaded chicken which I was going to cook and then use in a curry later this week, it'll have to be a veg curry now, so he was arghhhhed at too!

Karbea · 27/07/2014 14:32

I work in tesco and both aldi and lidl are a long way from me, I can walk to tesco plus the small discount I get I think it's probably worth it just to carry on with them.

SpottyTeacakes · 27/07/2014 14:39

I know tins of tuna have got smaller but I could have done sandwiches for all of us from that one tin Grin

Karbea · 27/07/2014 14:42

What are your go to breakfasts and lunches for yourself?

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 27/07/2014 15:54

Karbea porridge with water when not pregnant n feel like puking in morning so at moment generally those cheap little scotch pancakes.

We sometimes have bagels for breakfast if have some in freezer from reduced section.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/07/2014 16:48

£1.08 shampoo
£3 gravel to decorate my pots, it was a split bag in wickes so it was half price.
