cool how old is he and what clothes brands do you like? DC have some trousers they've grown out of still in good condition, age 9-10.

A friend has just given me some as-new stuff - all Hollister and Quicksilver - for DC so they have enough for summer now.

NK5BM3 · 08/06/2014 19:58

£11 in waterstones. Then to beach with picnic. Spent £3 on ice lollies. Home for fish and chips and peas - win. Dh was angling for the fish and chips from the beach but I said it was only 4pm. We got home and I get them out of the freezer. Methinks that deffo saved at least £20. Smile

AdoraBell · 08/06/2014 23:48

Well done NK

We haven't left the house today. I will need to buy groceries but can manage the next few days despite what DDs think constitutes "nothing to eat".

Makingchanges · 09/06/2014 00:11

well was having a nsd until teatime. Needed bread so ended up at petrol station £70 and coop £1 for bread and then kfc on way home. However, did have a 20% off voucher for completing survey so saved some money there.

Dh defrosted freezer today so we can us it for meal planning more efficiently this week. He put his finger through wrapper on some chicken so defrosting that for tea tomorrow. I sorted some cupboards out and found some things to ebay too. now just need to find time to list them

well done on fish and chips at home. thst would have taken me some willpower Grin Grin

springbright · 09/06/2014 07:44

NK great will power! I've had a real wake-up call this week in just how easily 20 here and there adds up...
Tues - charity BBQ - 20 food and drinks
Fri - 40th birthday party - 20 drinks and flowers
Saturday - swimming then afternoon pint and crisps in sunny beer garden - 20
Sunday - light lunch after lovely river walk 20
So 80 in a week just on 'entertainment'. Each one in itself was as frugal as possible e.g. friend babysitting, no taxis, sandwich rather than roast dinner, crisps rather than pub lunch, its just that when put together as a weekly cost it is way too much.

Life is definitely not like this every week, in fact most weeks are infinitely more house-bound, but what it shows me is that money can drain away here and there even when in my mind I'm being frugal.

NK5BM3 · 09/06/2014 11:51

spring you are right about how easy the 20 just goes 'like that', even though each one in itself was as frugal as possible. it's scary isn't it?

northender · 09/06/2014 13:29

You're right spring, the money just goes. Our weekly budget runs from Thursdays to Wednesdays and we are into next week's already Angry. It's so demoralising.
Hoping today will be low spend but have had to pay £8 for a prescription already. Saw the GP this morning and she has put me on Prozac Sad. I'm not keen but recognise that I do need it at the moment. So looking forward to our holiday in August, nothing luxurious, a static caravan in Brittany but I cannot wait!

lilacclery · 09/06/2014 14:26

no problem coolcadbury
I must figure out why my dropbox is not connecting on my phone and then I'll be able to use ynab properly. My use of it so far has been more retrospective than it should be. Did a fresh start last week.
But I've noticed the difference already with my way of thinking.

Had some frugal purchases at the weekend, saved up some of my bigger purchases for visiting an outlet centre and got a pair of Clarks shoes and runners for dd4 for €35 as opposed to €45 each locally, and a pair of Asics for running for €56 as opposed to €100+ online and €120 locally. Plus a le Creuset set for a housewarming present. These were all things I'd to buy anyhow and the outlet centre was on my way home from visiting a friend.

Dh going to do the weekly grocery shop today, armed with a list made out by me. Will be interesting to see if it's under or over budget.

CremeEggThief · 09/06/2014 15:02

£6.30 topping up at Tesco, on a few things I didn't realise we were nearly out of when I did the online shop, and some fresh salad leaves. Oh and 53p on a 2nd class stamp.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/06/2014 16:11

£10 on fuel.

Checkout smart reimbursed me so only work stuff yesterday.

£4.50 on two school dinners for ds, £4 for cake and coffee at sainsburys. Otherwise sort of NSD as I brought lunch to work.

SpottyTeacakes · 09/06/2014 19:03

£38 lunch at the airport dropping our bags off ready for our early flight tomorrow!

Charlieboo30 · 09/06/2014 19:28

NSD here. Tomorrow should be the same!

CremeEggThief · 09/06/2014 19:35

Enjoy your hols, spotty. :).

NK5BM3 · 09/06/2014 21:05

Enjoy your hols spotty!!

AuditAngel · 09/06/2014 21:11

Fluffy thanks for the info about Asda diesel, but we don't have one of their petrol stations near us. Plus, work reimburse me for ALL my fuel, so I always give DH any vouchers/money off, so we as a family benefit, rather than my employer .

Yesterday £64 on diesel (not using the 2p discount available), £20 on taxi home from cousins house.

Today £8 on lunch plus snacks for my drawer at work, travel card to London for a course, but work will reimburse that.

Now I need to do my food shop from the weekend.

AuditAngel · 09/06/2014 21:54

£67.06 on Sainsbury's shop after £10 off plus free delivery voucher.

Makingchanges · 09/06/2014 22:01

Enjoy your holidays spotty.

£24.15 on prescriptions today. Had to go to docs with ongoing probs with my back. Prescribed strong painkillers. Went to get prescription and found my repeat prescription for migraines available. Annoying cos cost alot more than planning as prescription shouldn't have been claimed until next week. Also £20 on top up shop and bits whilst waiting for prescription. Also bought something that can claimback on checkout app so going to try that fir first time tonight.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/06/2014 22:03

Have a lovely holiday Spotty

threedeer thanks but DS is only 6. I tend to buy his clothes from m and s, tesco and gap. I swear that trousers last about a month!

Another NSD today.

SpottyTeacakes · 10/06/2014 00:13

Thanks everyone! I need to be up in 2.5 hours and I can't sleep!

AdoraBell · 10/06/2014 03:12

Hope you have a lovely holiday Spotty

Spent £2 on yogurts biscuits and small chocolate bars for packed lunch treat

springbright · 10/06/2014 06:50

Have a great holiday spotty!

4.98 on a pack of also nappies yesterday. Dd is now day trained so these should last for at least a month, just nights, naps and long car journeys.

I'm aiming for nsd today. Taking dd for her first dentist trip this afternoon. I'm counting that as free entertai.ment.!

lilacclery · 10/06/2014 11:41

Enjoy holiday spotty
Dh did well with the shopping, no cheaper or no more expensive than when I go, he stuck to the list religiously so as a result we've no cheese cos I didn't put it on the list!

Got a 90 wash bucket of fairy non bio for €20, that should do us into next year and Tesco sell xl pack 40 washes for €16.99 so delighted with that purchase!

Spent an hour this morning juggling figures and looking at my debt and figuring out what to pay off first. These are my debts in order in which I'll pay them back
Oxendales €24.74 Paid
Littlewoods €123.00 Cleared by End June
Owed to dh €290 Cleared by End June
AIB Credit Card €1650 Cleared by End 2014
Tesco Credit Card €2050 - bring down to €650 by November and transfer to 0% credit card
Credit Union Loan €8500 Cleared by End 2015
Owed to dd Credit Union ACC €1420
Owed to ds Credit Union ACC €720
Is this how ye would pay them back? Obviously dh's & kids are interest free as well but his was from his short term savings so I want to pay him back asap.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/06/2014 11:56

I'd pay dh first, mainly for family harmony.

Then I'd do the highest interest rate next although psychologically you feel better paying each debt off in size order you are paying more on the expensive debts if you pay them last.

£20 on fil Christmas scotch, I should get 50p back off checkout smart on that.

£11 on fil Father's Day whisky and that should get £2 back off checkout smart.

£10 petrol.

Joined the local library so I'll go down later to get books.
