I applied to remortgage with the post office. I didn't ask for anything more than I owe on my existing mortgage with the halifax.
The post office have declined the application on the grounds of affordability.Mortgage amount is £154000. My husband earns £56000 and I earn £7500 self employed. We have four dependent children.
My husband has a company car which he gets paid for and then the loan company take £615 a month directly out his wages. If he lost his job or whatever the car would go and his company would sort the car out. It is not in my husbands name.
The post office said they declined us due to our number of children and this car loan. Even though it is not Dh's car, it belongs to his company.
We got this mortgage with Halifax just over 3 years ago no problem with exactly the same circumstances (actually I wasn't working). I know different lenders have different criteria but it seems harsh.
I am very concerned now this will go against us if I go elsewhere for a remortgage.
Do you think this will affect me??
I asked the Halifax for a remortgage last week but there deals were worse than my existing mortgage with them (which is not on a fixed deal anymore).
Any advice greatly welcome.
