Even when being frugal, what's the one 'luxury' you HAVE to have?

disclaimer if the budget can physically stretch to it, of course...

I have to have nice instant coffee.. such as Millicano, Azera etc. Can't start the day without it (well - not without being a right grump, anyway!).

I will now happily shop at Aldi, and love everything I've bought so far, but I tried their Colombian coffee (not the same ground instant type anyway, but gave it a go)... bleeuurr.. cross between Nescafe & gravy!!!

What's the one luxury you factor in to your budget?

My perfume. It is absolutely stupid amounts of money, but I'll feed them all lentils a week for it if I had to chose.

Another coffee snob here.

Fresh flowers.

bbcessex · 02/02/2014 21:32

DownstairsMixUp - have you tried the chocolate at Aldi? (my new parrot-like-phrase!!!) - it's really really good... and really really cheap Grin

Yes, Audit the L'occitane almond shower oil does sound decandent but it does last for ever and makes me forget I have no spare money lol. Good idea re DH :)

AuditAngel · 02/02/2014 21:43

I try to buy my fairy liquid in Asda, every now and then they have enormous bottles for about £1

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/02/2014 21:49

No Fairy Liquid here - dp is allergic to it. We only have Ecover, but a bottle lasts for ages (and we don't have a dishwasher so use loads of it).

MsAspreyDiamonds · 02/02/2014 22:53

Proper coffee & Lyons coffee bags for work. I just can't drink instant anymore even the posh stuff like Millicano or Azera.

I have joined Costco so buy my cleaning, laundry & toilletry products in bulk once or twice a year and I save so much money this way.

Properly fitted shoes for dc because they have weird feet

A take away now and then

Proper diluting juice ie robinsons

Fairy non bio washing tablets

The car (I know it's a huge luxury but I'd feel very trapped without it)

BeaWheesht · 02/02/2014 23:21

Oh and my phone

PigletJohn · 02/02/2014 23:31

has nobody mentioned fags and the lotto?

duchesse · 02/02/2014 23:37

Decent coffee -I have a stove-top machine and I buy a brand of coffee that tastes exactly like good French coffee, except it's Italian. I would be truly bereft if I couldn't have my one daily cup of good coffee.

Laquitar · 02/02/2014 23:38

Bread.

I should learn to bake my own.

mcgilly · 03/02/2014 07:05

Good chocolate, good coffee, good perfume, good lipstick, broadband ... Thankfully I can get most of these luxuries at a very competitive price now. Except really good perfume.

dizhin79 · 03/02/2014 07:27

another coffee snob here.

Tinned tomatoes are the one thing I cannot compromise on, the basics are just watery crap with few actual toms in them! We bulk buy when on offer Grin

CouthyMow · 03/02/2014 07:31

Decent loo roll. Can't be doing with scratchy stuff on my undercarriage!

CouthyMow · 03/02/2014 07:39

Heinz - ketchup, tinned spaghetti, beans, soup. And Fairy WUL.

bbcessex · 03/02/2014 09:27

CouthyMow - took me ages to work out what 'WUL' was Grin - doh!

Sky sports
Good make up

DH loves sport and it's his only 'extra' and I need to have decent make up. I can have cheap everything but if I have nice make up on I feel better.

CouthyMow · 03/02/2014 10:10

Blush It's how I write it on my shopping list!

CouthyMow · 03/02/2014 10:10

(Can you tell I was multitasking?!)

Iamnotanugget · 03/02/2014 16:51

My mobile and broadband but less than £20 for the two so it's ok. Properly fitted shoes for dc and chocolate for me and dh.

bbcessex · 03/02/2014 19:56

I'm surprised to see that there's more coffee than wine on this list.. although, to be honest, I think I treat wine as a necessity, rather than a luxury!

I have to have nice moisturiser (sorry L'Oreal!), nice makeup and non basic stuff like milk etc and free range chicken. I also weirdly like nice shower gel but recently have been getting Nivea Oil with different scents.

I should really try basics for skimmed milk.

I just have only occasionally got on with non naice makeup.

Oh and the cat eats Sheba pate but then she had almost all her teeth removed two-three years ago so the pate is all she can manage!

CremeEggThief · 05/02/2014 20:31

Twinings Earl Grey.
Sacla organic pesto (because it's the only one that's labelled vegetarian).
Croissants for breakfast most Sundays (from the supermarket is fine).

SouthernComforts · 05/02/2014 20:37

Havnt read the thread but when I saw the title I thought milicano coffee!

I got a catering size tin from B+M bargains a couple of months ago for £8!!

spleenyone · 05/02/2014 20:39

Coffee beans from whittard, maltesers and wine
