Aldi's Super 6 Veg is now 49p - has that gone up - are they 'cashing in'?

or is the Super 6 always a varied price?

I'm pretty new to Aldi - (since Christmas really) - the 'Super 6' I've bought previously has been 39p across the board.

Is this is a sign that Aldi are increasing their prices due to more market share? If so - bloody poor show I think... 8% price increase on their Super 6.. pahhhhh... shape of things to come?

Has the euro-pound ratio changed at all recently? that can cause Aldi and Lidl prices to wobble about.

ChasingSquirrels · 17/01/2014 09:59

I thought it used to be more and the 39p was an extra-special.

poopooheadwillyfatface · 17/01/2014 10:00

They have varied when I have bought them, not always 39p IIRC. But I got 4 garlic bulbs in the super six last week, bargain.

ChasingSquirrels · 17/01/2014 10:00

Just googled, I thought they were 69p and found a few old links saying that price.
So 49p still v good.

chanie44 · 17/01/2014 10:08

Has always been 69p in my store, but that could be London prices

MirandaWest · 17/01/2014 10:11

I've always seen them at 69p (am in Yorkshire)

bbcessex · 17/01/2014 10:17

Ah - good - that's okay then :-) - phew... .. I'm in Herts.. it's been 39p since I've started using Aldi but admittedly, only for 4 weeks!

Yes - 49p is still a great price... I guess I'm just paranoid that they will start to increase their prices as they seem to be more popular these days, and I've only just found them!!!! :-)

varies depending on what is in it I think :)

GinOnTwoWheels · 17/01/2014 11:41

I think I paid 39p last time I was in (lettuce, cucumber and spring onions for a little over a pound - bargain!), but I have seen them at 69p and 49p as well - I thought 49p was the 'normal' price.

Trills · 17/01/2014 11:52

"Cashing in" is a weird way to phrase it, even if the price has gone up.

They are a business. There are all kinds of reasons why they might change the price of something.

"Cashing in" seems to indicate some kind of moral component to the decision.

bbcessex · 17/01/2014 14:54

I think you may be right Trills - maybe I feel that Aldi has a moral obligation to keep me in cheap pineapples Grin.

I suppose I meant that as Aldi has gained popularity recently of the back of the 'cheap but quality' retailer tag, are they now going to gradually increase the prices..

But happily, from the posts above, probably not, so hurrah for me and my Frugal 2014!!!

It goes up and down, some weeks it's 39p, others its 49p, 59p or 69p but its never gone higher.

I freeze things when they are cheap eg sweede, butternut squash, celery, garlic cloves, carrots, onions, leeks, courgettes and it lasts me until they come round again.

bbcessex · 17/01/2014 19:11

Panic over... Phew!!! Just did a 90 quid shop in Aldi..putit through Tesco online.. 142.50....

Woo hoo, all is right with mt grocery world !!

I bought cucumber, celery and spring onions last week - all at 39p.

I think it depends on what they've got.

I love ALDI...

Norudeshitrequired · 24/01/2014 14:30

They have different super 6 prices depending on what they have in, what's in season and how good crops have been. Sometimes the super 6 is 39p, sometimes 49p and sometimes 69p. I don't think it can be considered 'cashing in'.

Super 6 was 69p today and I got a small pack of blueberries, which was great for the price as I then went to the waitrose over the road and an admittedly much larger pack of blueberries was £3.50 Shock. As they go off quickly, I would much rather buy a little pack than a massive one.

However, lettuces, cabbages and brocolli were not in the Super 6, but were all 49p.

I think it's really worth buying the Lakeland spray fresh bags. I was really skeptical. But they definitely work in keeping fresh fruit longer.
