You managed to save some money and the car sucks it all up!

Like a lot of people I need a car for work.

You put money aside for repairs, MOT, tax etc (if you can) but the bloody car always wants to eat into any other money you managed to save.

I have just spent 6 months tax on it, 3.5 months to go on the MOT but oh no....it cannot wait until then when I was planning to buy a smaller one anyway.....it has to mess up now.

Imagine driving around a roundabout when you suddenly lose power, pressing the accelerator and the car is just dying, a car looming up behind you, frantically looking for the hazard brakes.

Just about managed to pull up onto a kerb to let cars pass. A few minutes later the engine starts up normal as you please.

Now Im scared to go in it. So now, most of the money I had saved that was helping me feel a bit more secure is going to have to be spent on another heap of money guzzling metal. Grrrrrrr. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.!

I suppose at least I had the money put aside. :/

How awful. But as you say you've been sensible and have some money put aside...I'm no expert but could you have driven through water? I did that once and it caused my engine to just stop, but after sitting for a few minutes it was right as rain again, as if it dried out, strange none the less.

I have, over the years, learned some basics about cars that help me keep costs low...I can change a tyre, do an oil and filter change, most things you'd get as part if a general service.

Yes Mum plenty of water driven through. It did start again, but it also has a leak coming from the ac unit/something like that, the floor is sopping wet and its beginning to smell too! Thing is there is no chance of it drying out in this weather, storming again tonight.

Ah well I did want to get a smaller car, so maybe its for the best. My mechanic said he will do his best to get a good price scrap as apparently the engine is worth more than the car.

This newer car has a smaller engine, lower tax so in the long run it may be a good thing. Still annoying though. ;)

So you are letting a mechanic sell your car for scrap for you?

Why not just sell it yourself for scrap, if that is all it's worth? Or, if the engine is worth something, sell the car?

It is very easy to sell a car for scrap, you don't need your mechanic to do it for you.

He is making enquiries for me. You sound a bit patronising. Of course I know I can sell the car myself or scrap it myself. He just happens to be a good and honest guy who wants to help me. They do exist you know!
