I looked at some of the outgoings that I could change and this is what I did...

  • changed contents insurance from £324.81 to £103.48
  • MOT at Ford garage instead of where we normally would have gone £35 instead of £54 (and picked up & dropped off car free of charge)
  • fixed gas & elec and swapped to cheaper tariff, saving £201.11 a year
  • cancelled Weight Watchers monthly pass, £257.40 saved a year
  • swapped car insurance from £651.33 to £228.96

Total: £1121.21

Which is going to make a huge difference in the long run over the coming year. All are matching the service or policy we already had as much as possible, so we're not actually downgrading. I didn't do cash back sites, which probably would have helped more.

Well done. Definitely get yourself on topcashback though.

It's well worth it.

Well done, especially if you managed to get same level of insurance cover. Getting the fine print on policies before buying seems tricky, did you manage to get them to send policy documents before sign up, or did you call them and ask a lot of questions so that you got like for like cover?

Have looked at switching electric but seems I am on best tarrif. Did find one cheaper but their standing charge was higher, so over all cost based on typical usage was higher. For anyone looking at switching electric, make sure you check the standing charge, as some suppliers seem to bump that up, then offer lower rates on usage - great if a heavy user but not so good if you are in a small property.
