I know Aldi is great value but...

Each time I go, there always seems to be a basic item that I need to purchase that they do not have. So I still end up having to go to Tesco (grrr) to get stuff and spend more £ (double grrr)

Over the last three trips I have been unable to get:
Broccolli, white potatoes, sugar, size 5 pull ups or nappies.

Does anyone else have this problem at their local Aldi?

Aldi don't sell a few things we consider staples but fortunately there is another supermarket over the road - they are normally built near to other ones.

I'd say they have about 95% of the things we buy. One of us does the main shop there and the other picks up the other things later in the week.

Ours is rarely out of stock of the things they do sell though.

Why don't you ask the store when their delivery days are. It's possible that many more people are choosing to shop there and they haven't quite got their stock control sorted.
We have a list of things we can only get at Tesco, and go there once every couple of months for them. It's mainly non perishable stuff like firelighters.

I don't have this problem with our Aldi. Frequently had it with Sainsbury though!

I very rarely have this at our local Aldi either - certainly no more often than at other supermarkets.

What time of day do you shop? The fresh veg does sometimes look a bit depleted by evening. No idea why the time of day would affect the nappies though .

I have this with Lidl. I then end up going to Sainsburys and spending a fortune.

Surprised Aldi didn't have any sugar. Our local one is pretty rubbish, the staff shout at each other and the meat is sometimes off. Lidl has better veg and our local one is great.

I wish Aldi would sell Worcestershire sauce and root ginger. Then we would be fine, especially now that they have started selling red lentils :)

Yup. Although tbf, they are staples to us (DDs dairy + soya free things) but not other people.

I decided we weren't saving any money in the end. We're currently trying online shopping.

Which day do you go? I found Saturday night awful but Sunday morning really good.

Yes, yes, yes to pull ups. I'm starting to think that they have stopped selling them. Its been weeks since I last got any from aldi.

Mine didn't have pull ups for about a month there but had them in yesterday....now that dd has decided she doesn't need them

I also find a Saturday after lunchtime and Monday mornings they are very poorly stocked. Sunday early, Thursday and Fridays are the best days here

Thanks for the tip steeking. I will do that.

I was hoping that by going to Aldi more we could save more, especially now DS is a toddler and we don't need all the baby stuff anymore.

It is amazing how much other random stuff you can buy in Aldi though with their "special buys". DS spotted a toilet trainer seat that he liked, but he was gutted about the broccoli though

I often see people buying trolley loads of one item from Aldi, perhaps with things like nappies, nurseries may go in and clear the shelf in one go.

Our Aldi had no wraps in for 4 weeks,the first three weeks the kids were back at school.They have had no Nan Bread either in that time.It is annoying as they when they are out their out. but I always go to another supermarket to just get odd things.

I have been shopping in Aldi for years and I just find that I save money because there isn't ten types of bean and no real offer stands.Plus the quality of the food compared like for like with "value" range in the supermarket is imo much better.

Ours is awful on a weekend - busy and no stock. But something miraculous happens overnight on Sunday and on Monday morning when I go in theirs full shelves and few people

As for staples, we do the weekly shop in Asda about once every six weeks to stock up on the stuff we can't get ie fish cakes for DD, shampoo for me, fabric softener (I only like Comfort) and Smart Price garlic baguettes (don't like Aldi's!)

No, our ALDI is pretty good. Failing that, there is a LIDL across the road and a Waitrose, Morrisons, Sainsburys and two Tescos within a short distance.

Yes, you did read that right - supermarket central here!!!

They always have plenty of Limestone Coast Chardonnay and that's all that matters.
