Virgin Media - what should I be paying?

Have Internet plus phone (with small supplement for mobile calls) and TV package but only the normal free channels, nothing that requires an additional payment. Bill is at least £60 a month for basics, is more if we watch a film (which we rarely do). I think we are paying a lot and would like to phone them for a reduction as we have been paying around this for years, do you think this is:

A) reasonable?
B) would work?

Our package is the same but we never use the phone. It's just cheaper to have all 3.
When we signed up it was about 25 a month but I just noticed its gone up to 37. We haven't added anything to it and bought no extras!
I know they were putting their prices up but this is ridiculous.
Phone them ( and I will too ) - apparently you can haggle. And tell them to stop sending paper bills.. That's another £2!

We pay £70 a month including sky sports 1,2 and 3 which I think is about £30

what do Virgin give that you don't get off Freeview?

I pay £26 (with line rental saver) for 10GB internet and unlimited phone from BT. Unlimited internet is about £30 I think. TV just comes from the sky. (small 's')

We pay £50 but have the biggest tv package, medium Internet and cheapest phone line. That's with TiVo and a second box upstairs! We also threatened to leave. U can negotiate a monthly discount for being a long term customer. Also when u first ring up and say u want to cancel don't be persuaded by their first offer of a deal go trough with the cancellation an someone from the retainments department will ring you before they cut you off and sort out a good deal.

I pay £39 for phone 30mg broadband, basic tv package and TiVo. I had a letter in October saying that my bill would be going up soon so I called them and told them I wasn't happy. If you call within two weeks of receiving the letter then you have the right to cancel your contact (good for people looking to cut right back) or they can offer you discount. I quite like they're broadband so went with the discount.

Virgin are pretty good at renegotiating deals. When we asked about getting Tivo they offered us XL phone Tv and Broadband for 61.50 pm with Tivo. You should definitely get a better deal if you ask.

Roughly the same as CharlieMumma. When you ring up make sure you're speaking to customer retentions (they're UK based and it's easy enough to get put through by saying you're thinking of switching to Sky ). Then do lots of "Oooh it sounds quite a lot still. Can't really afford to pay that much". When they say they can't do it any cheaper ask for free stuff (tivo, extra box upstairs, discount/free installation)

We have 30Mb broadband, XL tv, line rental & anytime calls on the phone, tivo & V+ box upstairs. Can't remember the exact amount - I budget £60 a month which allows us to rent a film and covers random calls to numbers that aren't free.

Wow, we are being shafted. I knew our bill was high but we have two phone lines with anytime calls, TiVo, xl tv, separate v+box, fast broadband, sky sports and movies and we usually pay around £130per month. I have just had an email saying the latest bill is available and it is £145!!!

We have no BT line to our house so not sure it is actually that easy to swap over to another provider? Also DH likes sky sports and last time I looked it was actually cheaper to have movies/sports combo than sports alone.

I did phone up a couple of years ago and threaten to leave and got it reduced a bit but it seems to be creeping up again. Problem is I'm not sure there is an alternative so I can't threaten to leave with any meaning.

Well I phoned up and 26 minutes later have saved £3!!!!!

All calls are now included which will stop the fluctuation and in reality will save another £10-15per month. I could have saved an extra £3 but that would mean signing up for another 12 months so I said no to that!

I did compare sky and BT combo and it was around £15pm cheaper but I can't be bothered to switch.

Well at least I tried.....Slightly at my fail though!

we had a call only yesterday from virgin offering us a tivo box and upgrade of broadband to 30mb for an extra £2 a month so will be paying £33.99 for anytime calls, calls to mobiles, international and 0845, tivo box (guessing basic package) and improved broadband with new home hub. No installation charges etc just flat rate.

farcical balls-up by VM

Oh, yeah. I unfortunately have that T-shirt.

VM cut me off without warning, whilst in credit and paying DD and wouldn't reconnect me for 2 weeks.

The reason ?

Neighbour who was moving in a couple of flats away, had inadvertently given my flat address. That's it! They just took her word and my BB wasn't reconnected til she'd moved into her flat.

Moral of the story:

If you hate someone and want their VM services cut dead just tell VM you're moving to their address.

Voila. Disconnectaroooniii. No checks. Nada. ByeBye BB.

Ashamedly I am still paying £22.50pm for their bastardcunting broadband.
