Anyone used cash 4 clothes???

I was wondering if anyone has used one of these companies tomak a bit of money? If so are they worth it? or do you need to literally take a car load of clothes to earn 50p? Any info would be appreciated..thanking you in advance lovely mumsnetters xx

You won't make much money as they expect the clothes to be in near new condition. Then they pay you pennies! Avoid it and use ebay.

Moneysavingexpert forums aren't keen on cash for clothes. They don't weigh the stuff in front of you, so no way of knowing if you're being ripped off.

I have used Bob's Cash For Clothes which was a good service, and they weigh the clothes in front of you and give you cash on the spot, which is never wrong. They don't check the items that carefully, except for the heavier things - I had several things accepted that had small marks or stains.

They pay 60p a kilo, but in London and SE only, I think.

I got £14 cash for 20-odd kilos of random outgrown clothes (three black sacks), including shoes, coats and hoodies. None of them were in ebayable condition, so it was that or the charity shop and/or textile recycling.

I thought it was reasonable, given that they also saved me the trouble of having to take it anywhere. Smile

they weigh in front of us at our local one.. I only bother taking the things that don't go on eBay or not in ebayable state..get about £4-5 per black bag depending in what's in it..

Yup another fan here
Most of my clothes have been thru 3dc, and were George stuff to start with
My local one weighs it in front of you and accepts shoes n belts too
This is a good deal for me
I've made around £20 over past few months

I made £12.60 from a big bag of clothes and shoes. They only rejected 1 kilo.

I've use our local one twice and won't use again.

They weighed in front of me and checked the clothes over-fine by me.

But you give them loads of clothes for not a lot of money really.
I either sell on eBay or give to a charity local to me who gives the clothes to those who need them rather than selling them.

I used a local recycling place for old non sellable clothes - stack them up for a while - and took some clothes that were in MIL loft (old fashioned) - got £35.00 so quite pleased. Thye only rejected a couple of DPs old work tops with writing on. Didnt check the rest very closely and even took old worn out shoes

I used them recently, and won't use them again!

They 'rejected' some really lovely White stuff skirts, Mini Boden and a Jack Wills hoody (that was meant to look faded) and then offerred to dispose of them in their skip!

I took them to the charity shop and they were grateful!

I sent off for the details but decided for all the effort to check all clothes were immaculate and so little money gained, that i would rather give away to friends or donate to charity

Very frustrated that my message has been deleted as I wasn't advertising at all for my business I was informing people of what happened with their clothes. I find it quite unfair that my information (and that's what it was) has been removed but yet it's ok for some people to leave negative remarks about a job that I do and feel passionately about when they don't actually know and just assume. I gave genuine information about what happens with your items not asking you to use me in future. It's unfair that because some may rip you off we are all tarnished with the same brush!

As a previous victim of bank fraud I was more than surprised to be offered payment via pay pal, cheque [they charge YOU £1 for the privilege] etc. I really don't want to be giving my name, address AND bank details to someone ive just met in the street, Surely CASH for clothes should be in CASH. Ive used a cash for clothes company before and im always surprised by how little you actually receive. I accidently put a new pure silk dress (with labels) in the bag and when I rang them they denied receiving it, then offered to sell it back to me for £50. so be careful.

I got £1 per kilo on some of my clothes at Recyclecollection.co.uk they also paid for my broken electrical items and brick a brac!

I was persuaded to use it by DP. I took bags and bags of stuff and got £8.23.
It was humiliating. I could have ebayed some of it, and there were clothes and shoes that had only been worn a couple of times including Armani jeans. The charity shop around the corner could have made £100s.
Now stuff goes on ebay or goes to the charity shop.

I've done it with three huge bags of clothes, including a designer dress. Got less than a fiver iirc. It did get it out the house quickly though which I was grateful for I suppose. I wouldn't bother again, straight to charity shop in the future.

hi you will make some money it all dipence on how many bags you have.
clothes dont have to be brand new as long as they are clean and not damaged
for one black bin bag you can get £5

I run my car boot business in the same way around Norfolk. I can offer £1 per Kg as I sell it on. Some people think it's wrong to buy and sell in this way. I'm only doing what all cash for clothes to and sell it on.

Tried to use this appalling company
Was abused by a very rude employee who had no intention of doing her job

She saw I had a dog in the car and actually said all my clothes were covered in dog hair. She made no attempt to even look in the bags. When we arrived she had locked the ports cabin and wandered off we had to wait for her return she then started making personal phone calls and stood and watched as I unloaded 8 dustbin bags of clothes

Avoid this company.
Not at all professional

I have the worst story ever to tell with cash4clothes and would advise people to avoid using them. Firstly when I arrived one member of staff was dealing with a customer and was very rude, he retaliated by saying you better watch how you speak to people. Mine was worse. I accidentally gave them the wrong bag. I took approximately 9 bags which totalled the sum of £29.00, joke but in the bag I gave them, I had hidden my savings to be banked, to the total of £2,300. I just assumed that would be the best place to hide it in the clothes as no one would go looking through a bags full of old clothes until I could get to the bank. On realising what I had done I went down there and asked for my money as there is no way they would not have seen it. I do remember the same lady who was being rude to the previous customer turn away from me and push something in her pocket when dealing with my bags, the money was in a banking money bag. They denied seeing the money, they spoke in their language while I was there, rude, the manager was called who defended the staff, so now it is a police investigation. The lady in question drove off whilst I was there so took her vehicle registration and a photo of the car which is now with the police. I may just have to count my losses but they are dishonest and rude and no doubt having a wonderful shopping spree as we speak. It was money I had saved to arrange something special in November. I have been saving every penny I had, being so busy at work I had not had a chance to bank it. I took £200 out of the bag on Sunday so know exactly where it was. I then took the bags to them on Tuesday, I didn't realise they had the wrong bag until the Friday. There was three orange recycling bags, one that I kept back in the house thinking it was the one I had my money in. I take responsibility for not checking but not for peoples dishonesty. May god have mercy on the one that stole my money

As for the poor lady above I can only hope for a positive outcome.
THIS COMPANY IS THE WORST AND THE MOST DISHONEST AND SHOULD BE
Give your unwanted clothes to charity rather than line the pockets of these dreadful people
They seem to employ the dregs of the earth who are lazy and dishonest
ADVOID AT ALL COSTS
