dd has outgrown most of her clothes- where to go!

DD aged 19 months seems to need almost an entirely new waredrobe- wellies, vests, cardis, trousers, skirts, dresses, rucksack, it goes on! Any suggestions where I can stock up? am watching/bidding on some bundles on ebay but no real bargains!

An NCT nearly new sale? They tend to have lots of girls stuff.

Btw you can search on the NCT website for a sale near you and there are usually lots on in sept/oct/nov

You could try NCT sales, if there's any near you. I got stacks of DS's clothes from them.

He's only 13 months though, not sure how much choice there is in the bigger sizes that get a bit more wear and tear.

Facebook have local for sale or swap sites, car boot sales and baby sales. If buying new go to primark, tesco, asda etc as they grow out of things so quickly and the quality of supermarket clothes is surprisingly good.

NCT isn't always that cheap. I'd ask on local Freecycle and say you are looking for a bundle of winter clothes for a girl aged 20-24 months.
You'll be inundated within a couple of days.

I dress my children almost completely from Sainsburys and Asda - they are really cheap especially if you get to a Sainsburys when they have 25%off all the clothes, it happens regularly esp on Bank Holiday weekends. Then just a couple of nice tops from somewhere a bit posher.

I think you get less for older ones on freecycle because they are more likely to get trashed - I have given away tons of baby stuff but the old toddler stuff was only fit for the recycling bin.

Agree with NCT and freecycle, perhaps preloved? Charity shops can be good if you get the right one? And there's always lovely mumsnetters If I had girls stuff you'd be welcome to them. My 2 boys are well up now though and I don't have any things that age group that were unisex? Are you in the UK? If so what region?

Google 'Baby and Children's Market,' they have them in some counties in the UK but not others. Like an NCT sale but without the scrum.

Or keep an eye out for adverts for boot sales - the ones held in school playgrounds for the PTA tend to be the best ones, as it tends to be parents selling at them and therefore often there are loads of kids clothes for sale.

Also, re eBay - refine your search by 'distance - nearest first,' you might be able to find someone selling suitable stuff locally, so you can pick up - I often find the P&P costs more than the item itself.

Put a post on Freecycle. I saw a post and got in touch with a lady and gave my Dd's baby clothes. She was a lovely young girl who was pregnant with her first and just watching the pennies. She was very grateful to receive and I was grateful the clothes weren't wasted and used again.

I've got tons of 6-12 month stuff to sort through and 'pass on'.

Just had a look, Portsmouth, bit far from me in County Durham Was just thinking that I know a few people including my niece who have young dds, so could've helped out through them. Not to worry am sure you'll find some bargains soon.

I'm re-kitting out ds1, he's almost 15 and knocking on 6ft. Bit expensive but hey ho. Mind you he doesn't mind charity shop stuff at all. I've had some fantastic stuff for both my dss.

have a look at your council website. many offer 'baby goods exchange clubs' where you can donate your old outgrown clothes and swap for bigger size things for children under 5.

I would recommend tesco. My ds2 is about to grow out of 3-6 so had to stock up, got 6 sleep suits, 5 vests, 2 dribble bibs, 2 trousers, 5 tops and 3 dungarees/all in ones for £67. I'm also buying a bundle from gumtree with a lot of items for £15 so will be done for less than £100. Considering most shops like next charge around £20 per outfit I've done well.

Have you got a Debra shop near you? I went into one when I was visiting a friend in Scotland and it was fabulous. Stuff as good as new, great quality brands, and cheap.

Boot sales. Loads of next and Boden bits for 50p an item usually.

I would say go for Asda rather than Primark. I find DD grows out of good old Primarni much quicker than Asda. The quality is much better for an extra £1 or so.

Ask people who have older kids the same gender what they do with their hand me downs. I asked dd's swimming teacher who has a dd 2 years older and hit the jackpot there when her dc2 was a boy. I now have a source of 2nd hand Boden clothes she sells to me v cheaply in bundles - other mums fight over what I reject!
I buy bundles of clothes on here too though hadn't been much lately.

Jumble sales & charity shops. Have to find the right charity shops, prices vary hugely one to the next.

Car boot sales! I went to one today & got 2 sleepsuits, 3 long-sleeved t-shirts & 2 long sleeved vests for DS2 (17 months) for the grand total of £1.50 (not to mention 3 cardis for myself for 50p each )

The friend I was with got around 20 items plus a coat for her DD (age 3) for no more than £8 all in!

They are winding up for the winter now if outdoor ones, so people seem to be selling at cheaper prices than usual - perhaps so as to clear out & have a bit of extra cash for Christmas.
