has anyone got a recipe for the slow cooker they'd like to share?

have been reading the money saving tips here and decided I need to make more use of my slow cooker, so any recipes would be most welcome (esp chicken and beef - ta!)

i have a fab beef one, but couldnt say its cheap, let me know as can scan and will need email...

before I message you can you give me a brief description of it?

Ok , beef chunks, bacon bits, red wine, parsnips, carrots etc , herbs, beef stock. Yummy!

I just made this:
400g fillet of pork (about £3)
onion
cup of apple juice/ apple squash
1 chopped apple.
Cut pork into chunks, add salt and rest of ingredients on top then put on high for 4 hours.
Blooming lovely and v cheap and nutritious served with pasta/ potatoes and veg

This website (I found through recommendation on mumsnet) has a rcipe for yogurt in the slow cooker! A year of slowcooking . Not tried it but sounds fun and really seems to be an inspiring website.

My best slow cooker dish has been mulled wine!

Chicken legs/ thighs with olives tinned tomatoes onion garlic (spanish chicken) works well only problem is that it all disintegrates a bit and you have to watch out for bones when eating.

You can cook a whole chicken, perhaps with some chopped carrots and onions underneath it but do not add any liquid. App rubbing it lightly with oil first helps it to colour a little. There are also some tricks with tinfoil to help it crisp a bit more. It is likely to take less time to cook than your manual advises so check it an hour or so early.

Today I raided the store cupboard Istarted off with half a cup of lentils a cup filled with a kallo chicken stock cube and half white wine half water, olive oil, several chopped carrots and a chopped onion. I cooked for half an hour on high and 5 hours on low, I tasted it was yummy. I then added 2 tins of tomatoes, 2 tins of kidney beans (20p sainsburys basics are my fav but I used tesco basic which are quite hard) some oregano and brocolli and cooked for an hour on high. The brocolli didn't cook and there was a funny taste but it was edible. Served it with polenta (74p) fried in butter and garlic which was yum. Put the leftovers in a pyrex and planning to add mash and maybe some cheese to make a sheperdess pie.

Don't throw your slow cooker out if you have a couple of disasters; it seems to be something you need to experiment with and if the above blog is anything to go by there are some innovative ways to use a slow cooker. (occured to me yest when I was eating cold couscus that it would have been good to make in a slow cooker using the keepwarm function) .
