Opinions on Farm Foods please.

Just that really. Wondering if there are things to avoid, if anything is very bargainous, how it compares to Iceland or Aldi etc.

I like Farm Foods. Moreso than Iceland - i find it cheaper.

The milk is the cheapest i've found anywhere - 85p for four litres - you can't go wrong for that. The bread too, is quite cheap - ours vary their offer - any two Hovis products, brown or white sliced, or baps etc for £1.50, or sometimes it's any three for £2.

Frozen veg is good - i really like their frozen sprouts, they never seem to go mushy like other frozen ones, and the offer of bacon rashers, three for £6 is good - the bacon is nice, not full of water and tends to hold it shape well when cooked.

I wouldn't bother with it for homewears etc, but to fill freezers or fridges it's good.

I like farmfoods for certain things. If you register on their website they send you loads of money off vouchers each month

Thank you. Interesting about the sprouts. I love them, but never like them frozen. I will get some on my first shop. I guess the best way is to try stuff.

I don't find it cheaper than aldi but I love their hashbrowns.

I second (third?) the bread and milk comments. Branded bread is dirt cheap.
It's cheaper than Iceland. Good for branded products- birdseye/mccain etc.

Hovis bread, rolls, fruity baps and crumpets 75p each.

3ltr bottles of Fanta, Coke and Diet Coke £2 each.

Look out for their apricot frangipan cakes - pack of 4, 2 for £2 and they are lovely

Bernard Matthews turkey drummers, 12 for £2.

Thick question.... Is Farm Foods a brand of food or an actual shop? I've never seen it darn sarf, but sure it used to be ASDA's own brand.

Milk and bread is well worth it but shops are a bit manky. Well they are round here

Bread and milk definitely, basic fruit and veg good too, and bog standard frozen veg, peas, sweetcorn and the like.
I don't really buy pre prepared products for meals, but things like ice creams, and biscuits for DD are cheap, as are big bottles of ketchup, and mayo, and fizzy drinks for treats.
The Nicky brand loo roll is the best around, and £4 for 18 rolls.

It makes me laugh, I live in a town of two halves, the haves and have nots, and the haves are very snobby particular.
Anyway, they disputed the building of a big, proper supermarket which we don't have, but agreed the Waitrose (5th one in Scotland), yet the new Farmfoods is being built quicker

Farm Foods is a frozen food shop. It was also what Asda value was called before. Perhaps they are only in Scotland?

I buy the chicken breasts sometimes, just the plain ones.
They aren't free range, but that doesn't bother me, and they are fine in a curry or similar.
We eat quite strongly flavoured dishes anyway.
If I want plain chicken which is never, I buy the good stuff.
I buy based on taste really, I don't do food ethics, partly because I don't believe what I'm told, and partly because it's such a minefield.
Who says the cheap chicken is worse than the lentils picked by workers treated badly?

Legs of lamb fine too, but still dear.
Bacon I found watery, wasn't keen on, ditto gammon.
Mince, ok, but go for the lean steak mince, and cook into a highly flavoured dish.
Plain fish is fine for pies and such.
Any chopped casserole meat, avoid, very gristly, and lots of wastage.
What is good if you want a diiiirty treat, is the LA town range of takeaway type foods.
OK, it is crap, but it's much cheaper than a takeaway, and you are accepting it's not mung beans when you buy!

We have Farmfoods in Wales too.

I get 15% discount as ex dp works there and I get to use his discount a lot.

Id love it even more if they treated their staff better

Discovered farmfoods last year and it has been a total lifesaver. In terms of the big bags of meat products, the steaks aren't great but are ok if you do them in the slow cooker with gravy and serve over mash. The pork loins are lovely done this way in a tin of a mushroom soup and some stock - they just melt apart with a fork - scrumptious.

Bags of breaded fish are a good deal and are very good - crisp up nicely in the oven while the potatoe products are good for lazy days (we like the fritters).

Some things aren't as good, we don;t like the ham flavoured grills or Chinese rib thingies so there will be some trial and error but, as others have said, worth a trip for the bread and milk alone.

OOOOh ... and big bags of grated cheese and yogurts :)
