It's not that I never go there, I do quite often, but I was there today with enough time and blimey, it's cheap!

Free range eggs- £1 for 6- I do a lot of baking and have been buying them for £2, ditto butter £1 rather than nearly £2.

Yep! I love Iceland.....ice cream and lollies are excellent value.

That butter price won't be helping those poor struggling farmers.....

FlatCapAndAWhippet · 24/07/2012 18:55

Have you got a local farm selling their own eggs, ours charge £1.60 per dozen and they,re lovely, deep orange yolk not that grim pale watery yellow colour from the supermarkets.

I'm a recent Aldi convert, will try Iceland too.

I carefully posted this in credit crunch, cogito! Not ethical shopping! Butter is unlike milk in its production and subsidies, so I don't think there's such a direct correlation between cost to consumer and supply payment... If I'm wrong I'd buy elsewhere though!
There is a stables selling eggs nearby, but having heard horror stories I think I'd trust Iceland more!
Forgot lollies and paid £1.50 apiece this afternoon Sad

Butter is a processed milk product and the farmers' protest is with the processors. So I think you're kidding yourself if you think the cheap butter at Iceland is somehow magically outside the system.

RedHelenB · 27/07/2012 07:13

Never met a poor farmer!!!

lambethlil · 27/07/2012 08:43

Thanks cogito, I know where butter's from. I also know that the entire diary industry is heavily subsidised and rightly so. As I said I didn't post this is ethical shopping- perhaps you should start a thread over there.
