We live in the sticks but took a trip into the city today and I visited an Asian supermarket for the first time. I am amazed at the prices!

Huge box of cherries (bigger than a shoebox and v fresh) £4
Box of 4 lovely honey mangoes £2.25
Spring onions, 3 bunches for £1
Dates 69p a tray!
Cucumbers 30p each
Sacks of Tilda basmati rice for £17.99
Tomatoes 25p a kilo (really! and they were nive too!)

If only I lived closer!

I try and get all my fruit and veg from my local shop, its good quality and excellently priced, you get really interesting veg for stirfries etc too. I come away with two big bags full for a tenner. Get the rest of my shopping via ocado = job done!

I live in a very multicultural area so it seems I am quite spoilt!

I've discovered the delights of Turkish supermarkets. In summer, the fruit and veg is so cheap and the quality is great. I can buy a big crate of vine tomatoes for £2, and a dozen lemons/3 iceberg lettuces/3 cucumbers for £1. They also do 4 packs of pitta breads for £1. They are the kind that you get in kebab shops that need to be eaten within 24 hours but they freeze well.

For ages I have been thinking I am quite a savvy shopper, but these places make Aldi seem such a rip off Sad The quality is so much better at the Asian supermarket.

We ate callaloo for the first time last night and it was delicious.

I am thinking that it might be worth the petrol to do a drive up once a month to at least stock up on the basics Smile and the girls packed all my goods for me! dont getthat in Aldi.......

I posted about a similar thing recently, I bought loads of herbs and spices at less than 1/3 of what they cost in waitrose!

Wish there was an asian supermarket on my doorstep!
I occasionally drive past a couple when visiting a friend.
There's loads of fresh fruit and veg outside on display all really
cheap prices. Like caulis 2 for 60p. Love cauliflower but as I'm
the only one that will eat it bit loathe to spend 80p-£1 for one
at Morrisons.
