Some fab threads on here! Im interested in your thoughts and ideas on how to save money around the house...not cooking, beauty, etc...but repairs, maintenance, etc. Currently renting with just a couple of thousand (doesnt sound much if you say it quick lol) more to save for mortgage deposit, and really need to smarten up our rental to make sure we get deposit back...

I think that "little & often" might be the key to what you need - I.e. enough to get your deposit back. Just keep on top of jobs and repairs so they don't turn into something major.

Maybe hire a carpet cleaner for the weekend from b&q to get any stains out of the carpet?

Know your limitations and cost things accurately. Tradesmen may seem expensive but if you add up the purchase of materials, tools, your time and the ever-present chance that you will cock the job up royally.... they are often the best choice. A coat of emulsion, OTOH, will not cost much and is difficult to mess up.

Good advice, thanks! Going to do a list for each room, a breakdown of what needs doing and cost up, hopefully that will save me time and money. A room a month should keep me on track with all aspects!
