Anyone used it? i have just submitted my details - we have been with brit gas for yrs as its always been cheapest howver today it says we could save £158 a yr switching to a company i have never heard off first:utility, i have heard horror stories with regards al lsuppliers but not heard of these guys. Do you really save?

I switched this week and am (theoretically) saving £258 per year by moving to EDF from British Gas. The cheapest deal was first:utility, but after reading the piss poor reviews, I decided to pay a bit more and go for a company I'd heard of. The process was all very easy although it's not all gone through yet. I'd say go for it.

You could try ringing british gas and asking what the best tariff is. If you haven't questioned it for years you will probably find there is a cheaper newer tariff. E.on did this for us last year and it turned out they came within the top 3 tariffs on uswitch so we stuck with them.

All the utility companies are bastards though, known or unknown. Just remember that the gas and electricity are the same, running through the same network of pipes and wires, regardless of who you go with. Its all about the customer service and price. You will never find a company that someone hasn't slagged off for shit service at some time.

I switched to NPower a long time ago and, on a regular basis, I check them against other suppliers. British Gas recently gave me a call and worked out that if I switched to them it would cost me £77/month rather than £58/month. So that was a 'no thanks' to British Gas. £13/month grosses up to £156/year.... unless you're fantastically wealthy, it's worth it.

To get the best price out of NPower pay on a direct debit and have both gas and electricity from them Have also found it pays to send them your own meter readings every month.

It's defiantly worth moving to the cheapest - We mover ours about every 12 months as makes no difference who's name is on the top of the bill. Strangely the last time we moved we moved to a different tariff it was with the same company that we were already using and they gave us a £50 gift voucher for doing so which was great!
