Only food and petrol June - New thread for support

Hi all,

After the very successful will only spend money on food and petrol thread, someone (QuinnFabray) suggested doing a new thread for June so here it is! I think it's a great support thread and makes me think twice about spending stuff on unnecessary stuff though not completely Blush.

The good news is though that after being overdrawn for two months in a row, May is the first month I'm in the black! Grin So the thread has definitely done something for me though because I was so pleased about how I was doing, I did end up ordering two bargains over the weekend (a half price trunki and also two duvet covers for the boys for less than a tenner).

But now it's back to serious business. I am also running my freezer lower than I have ever seen before! Need a big food shop on Friday. Also buying a Kindle for DH for father's day but have managed more or less to raise the money for that by selling off unwanted stuff and earning amazon vouchers! Good luck all!

Ax

I'm feeling a bit financially stressed this week. I've got 6 things on ebay nobody has bid on them Sad. Also ds is off to to college in sept I have to pay a £30 admin fee for the to process his application. Also it reminded me he'll need bus fare money. He's got a part-time job interview on sunday so fingers crossed he get's it. Other than that I'm trying to use what's in my freezer and meal plan more.

Ooh just found this and am so chuffed that the last thread inspired everyone to save money.

I have been so much more frugal and nothing has been spent on expensive coffee shops though we have been to Tesco coffee shop twice.

I'm in trouble...

I was doing so, so well. Managed to sell enough stuff to by DH a Kindle for father's day so I didn't have to spend any money etc. And because we are moving in two weeks, I was so good at clearing out stuff (and getting some money for the stuff that could be sold). But in the last few days, I've managed to:

  1. Go into Banana Republic to buy some clothes. It was a sale and they had some lovely stuff and I got some bargains (an £85 tunic top for £20!). To be fair, I hardly buy anything for myself. Even DH nags me to go and buy some stuff as my clothes are so old but I never have time. Also, I've had to give away tons of clothes (I have clothes more than 10 years old! Blush) as post-DCs, a lot of my old trousers don't fit anymore... :(
  1. We went out today to a local historic house (free as my friend lent me her membership) and we bought the kids some souvenirs and then we went and bought them a train table for the new house. It was a real bargain as it was half price and both my boys are train-mad. And it will be nice for them to have something nice in the new house to focus on. But no excuses really...

And tomorrow's father's day and my ILs are coming as we are taking them out for lunch. sigh I swear swear swear that from now till we move (1 July), NO MORE SPENDING ON NON-ESSENTIALS. You will all have to kick me if I spend any more on frivolous stuff! Angry

Can I join please? I am not in debt, I do not have a car, but I have little money so this thread should help me :) I'm allowed to buy fabric so I can make a dress for a wedding though right? Blush :o (I really really don't have a dress, I promise. This whole feminine thing is still pretty new to me :o)

Welcome meltedchocolate. Hope you find some much needed support here! Grin After the 'big' father's day weekend, I bought lunch yesterday (working) but have spent zilch so far. Been out and about seeing friends and doing free stuff like going to their houses or going for walks in the woods. It's fab! Tomorrow, DS1 will be in pre-school for half a day and DS2 and I will be going to a toddler's group but won't be spending on anything else... :)
