We have a great butchers in our village and I try to use it as much as possible. Yesterday I thought I'd get some belly pork pieces for us all and marinate them overnight. I made up a sauce with honey, soy sauce, chinese five spice, pepper, garlic and olive oil and drizzled it over. We ate it tonight with buttered jackets, creamy cabbage and chunky carrots. Was lush Smile And such a bargain I'll be doing it again soon.
Our butchers also do big packs of chicken legs for £2.50 so will do something similar to them. I did liver the other week and the boys ate it although weren't over enthusiastic. I used lamb's though but apparently calf's is the best.

Not sure what to cook tonight? I have lots of pulses so may do vegetarian? I'm making tofu burgers (from another thread) and may give them to dcs too? Dp will love them I'm sure? Might even bbq them?

I love pork belly. My butcher has Glos Old Spot which is out of this world, the fat and crackling are just ...mmmm I'd rather have a couple of strips of that than a fillet steak any day!

How long did you cook it for and at what temp? I love the sound of your marinade.

I cooked it for 40ish minutes? You'd cook it longer if it was a whole belly pork, this was just slices. Never heard of Gls Old spot? I'm in the north east so will probably be local pork? Marinade was a doddle, I didn't measure just guessed. The leftover marinade was nice drizzled over the buttered jackets Smile

Glos Old Spot Pigs if you are interested - not very pretty are they, bless them!

Thanks for that, Curiousmama, will def try it. This morning I'm making Banana Bread from a recipe I saw in a magazine, looks as if it will be delicious and filling and I can even pretend it's a bit healthy, what with bananas and a smidgen of wholemeal flour in every bite :o
