Anyone recently got COVID?

Hey everyone,

I am writing today as a student journalist and am creating an article on the new strands of Covid. I want to raise awareness amongst the youth and young adults of the damaging symptoms of these Covid strands and how they are particularly bad in causing an immensely sore throat. I feel as though this would be greatly beneficial for some of my class mates to hear about people's personal experiences with Covid in recent weeks to encourage them to get the recent vaccines.
If anyone is open to having a chat with me it would be greatly appreciated to spread awareness, and I will attach my details below.

Yes I had it last week. The hoarse sore throat was horrendous. I only tested as I read an article about the sore throat symptoms and I have a vulnerable dad. I’m beyond tired every day so hopefully I’ll feel better soon.

Would you be happy to have a chat sometime tonight about your experiences via call? I am looking to spread awareness of the youth to encourage them to get the vaccine, as many people my age I have noticed do not have much care for the matter?

@DeftLimePeer the youth in the UK cannot get the vaccine unless they pay for it (£100) is is only available on NHS if you are over 75 or have a specific health condition to make you eligible. My daughter has never had the Covid injections, she is 23, young and healthy adults have
no need for it

Maybe they want it.

My kids would happily have the vaccine again if it meant they didn't have painful sinuses and razor blade throats for the last few days. For us, covid is always worse than just a snotty cold, thankfully not as bad as flu though.

gemini0606 · 14/10/2025 20:54

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow anyone who wants it can pay for it

gemini0606 · 14/10/2025 20:55

@ImSoJulia surely then they make an appointment at a chemist and get it?

grandmashotdoodlebugs · 14/10/2025 23:02

Snorts. There are no vaccines anymore.

gemini0606 · 15/10/2025 08:00

@grandmashotdoodlebugsexactly! And young healthy people don’t need them

Shhhhitsmagic · 15/10/2025 19:54

I have covid right now and to be honest, the side effects from the vaccine made me feel just as ill as I do right now!

gemini0606 · 15/10/2025 19:58

@Shhhhitsmagic
I’ve not had any vaccine at all, have had Covid twice, last time was now over 2.5 years ago, pretty mild 2nd time, first time megga headache but wasnt in bed and still up and about.
My mum (age 86) has always taken the boosters until last year she was so ill with the booster so she didn’t take it (she is one of the few people that has never tested positive at all, that we know of!) this year same, she’s not taking it

I've only had the vaccine once (so that I was allowed entry to Spain 😂) and it didn't stop me catching it. My parents had their booster 2 weeks ago and they tested positive today too!

gemini0606 · 15/10/2025 20:34

@Shhhhitsmagic Indeed! Yeah lots of my friends only took the original one to get to go on holiday 😂

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 16/10/2025 07:00

A vaccine won't stop you getting the virus, but will mean you suffer less severe symptoms. Some people seem to have short memories. I'd be persuading my mother in her 80s to have the vaccine too.

Lennonjingles · 16/10/2025 07:08

DS 29 has Covid at the moment, he’s been really bad, but has Asthma, before testing positive GP gave antibiotics as she said he had a chest infection, it wasn’t getting any better after 5 days, that’s when he tested again and it’s Covid. He’s signed off work till Monday, as his employers no longer pay sick pay for Covid, luckily he’s been signed off for chest infection. I recommended that he at least get his flu vaccine, he is considering the Covid booster as he is eligible.

gemini0606 · 16/10/2025 07:13

@Needtosoundoffandbreathe my mum has never as far as we know had Covid even during the height, she is always out and about and goes on 3 holidays a year, very strong and independent woman and no one will persuade her to do anything she doesn’t want to do, I fully support her decision

They’re not entitled to it so maybe that’s why!

iwillnotstaycalm · 18/10/2025 05:07

I had the vaccine and this is my 8th or so time having Covid. To me it’s more like an annoying cold - maybe a little more and little less than the flu. I was unwell with something a couple of months ago (not vid) and it was much more intense than what it is now.

Obviously a lot of people are different and how they respond are different so what is not bad for me may be deadly for someone else.
