How is COVID presenting now?

I had a bad and stressful day on Tuesday. It was so bad I came down with an intense migraine. Or that's what I thought it was. I had plans on Wednesday and I got up feeling well. Wednesday morning was also a bad and stressful and my migraine intensified. It was awful.

Then yesterday morning I was in bed and I was hardly able to breath because my nose was so blocked. Over the course of the day I came down with cold symptoms.

Now today I have a cough that is on and off and a cough. It's not a bad cough.

It just kinda nearly seems a lot like the COVID I had last summer. The thing that is hitting me this morning is the exhaustion. But I am very stressed.

Currently doing a test to find out what this is.

Just wondering if COVID is presenting like this.

I was around a child who had a cold about three weeks ago and I came away thinking great I didn't get it and I was so happy. I thought I got away free. I wasn't around anyone else sick by the way so I think the timeline is off for me to now get this cold.

Just did a COVID test and it's negative.

I had it just before Christmas. I was very unwell. High temperature, hacking cough with loads of phlegm, general sinus congestion, exhaustion, headaches (I am not usually susceptible to headaches and these were brutal), a bit of delirium, deafness, and sneezing violently when I woke up.

I've just come back from Turkey and tested positive for Covid today. It started like regular cold with fatigue on Tuesday, runny eyes, headachey, runny nose, tight chest, cough, voice loss and lack of appetite. It was only when I got home today and realised I couldn't smell or taste anything that I thought I'd do a test. Positive. I had Covid a couple of years back and it has presented very differently to last time.

No idea what virus I currently have, all the usual covid symptoms, starting with that hideous sore throat and non stop sneezing. Fatigue and weariness off the scale. Non stop hacking and phlegm, a raging furnace of a temperature, sweating like a mutant, ended up being like I was trying to sleep in a swimming pool. Plus the ocular migraines and sensitivity to light and screens, that non stop medium level nagging tension headache. Plus insomnia, like it's built in, 2 hours sleep in the last 48 plus hours. Had covid 3 or 4 times by now, the ocular migraines and sensitivity to light and screens, is unique to covid, for me at least, never happened before covid came along.

Reckon I've probably got covid so resurrecting this thread to ask how long it takes to go?! I'm 2.5 weeks in and still got a tight chest, coughing, snotty, sneezing, fatigue, headache. I'm fed up!

NeutralBee · 09/04/2025 22:41

Ive got covid currently, i have runny nose, pain in my sinuses, low level fever, cough, cant smell or taste and a really tight chest
I wouldnt usually test but it was my nans birthday (shes vulnerable) and the tight chest made me suspicious as a normal cold doesnt usually effect my chest.

Same as, much improved, but still on my chest, random mutant hackings, esp. still overnight. My hearing has worsened since this bout, just like the other 3 times I've had covid, might have to head back to Audiology or ENT, struggling with my hearing aids, esp. with background noise.

It did take quite a while. I had it before Christmas and I'm still getting some congestion and mild deafness.

Might be worth seeing your GP if it's been that many days with no improvement.

Monvelo · 10/04/2025 08:31

I'm not off work anymore so don't think I need to see the GP, was just dismayed that someone told me it took them 5 weeks to get better!!! Another couple to go maybe...

I've got Covid now which being self employed in a client-facing job is jolly inconvenient! Started on Monday with a bit of a sniffle and developed as the day went on, the tell tale giveaway for me was severe joint pain in my knees, stuffed sinuses and a really bad headache that nothing seems to shift plus severe fatigue. Very strong positive test today. SO annoying.

My grandson had a cough and runny nose last weekend. Tuesday I started with sneezing and a runny nose. Tuesday night I had chills so bad I had to load extra duvets on me. Weds boiling hot then nausea and vomiting unable to get out of bed..Thursday symptoms generally gone but so wiped out and unable to face any food..Friend said a friend had similar symptoms and it was COVID so I did a test...immediate positive result. Saturday now, food still making me so nauseous after a couple of mouthfuls and energy levels so low, doing anything is wearing me out.

im wondering if I have it now. I usually get it this time of year (or have done the last 3 years when the vaccine wears off - usually it’s end of May but has the vaccine earlier last year). Keen to test out of curiosity but not tests left. I caught off husband who is coughing away as we speak. Typical cold symptoms but did think fox’s glacier fruits tasted odd so who knows. I have blocked nose, dry throat, sore sinuses and can tell it’s trying to get to the chest. Mild fever but I don’t usually suffer too badly with it as a virus.

What was this in the end? I've had an awful headache that started on tues night but was so bad yesterday I couldnt get out of bed (more like a migraine). But I also have been under a lot of stress.

My mum had it confirmed in February, hacking cough, head for of lead, limbs weighed down with weights. She did an LFT a couple of times as she was worried about passing it on and she was right. It took her forever to shift her her symptoms.

Last time I thought I had it (I didn’t according to LFTs) I felt the same. I think now for many people, however a traditional cold or flu used to effect you most, this is how covid affects you now. We’re all prone to that severe lethargy/cough in my family when we’re ill, never really get sinus issues though. Just my experience though

My DH and I have had extremely mild symptoms which we hardly noticed. He had a slight sore throat and the occasional sniffle/sneeze. He didn't bother to test until a week in, and came up strongly positive. I started staying away from him at that point, but it was too late. Two days later I started symptoms and tested positive.

I'm now three days in and feel fine. Ongoing slight sore throat, slight fever which lasted one day, and now a bit of a wheezy cough. It hasn't slowed me down at all. DH has no trace of symptoms any more; it lasted just under two weeks for him.

We were both eligible for a booster, which we had just before Christmas, so perhaps that made it milder. But I did think boosters only offered good protection for about three months, so maybe it was just luck that we had it so easy.

Unfortunately I think our pet ferret has caught it from us. Today she has been quite lethargic and has watery eyes. Still eating and drinking well, so fingers crossed for her.

I'm day 2 of a positive lateral flow test after initially starting with what I thought was a severe migraine and runny nose yesterday morning. I've had covid before and it hasn't really bothered me or given me any symptoms but this time it's different! I have severe sinus pain constantly needing to blow my nose. The headaches, they start behind ur eyes and go into ur scalp you feel as though the sun is right in front of your face even darkening out the room doesn't help. I go from freezing cold go hot sweats yesterday in this heat I was sat in fluffy pj's and a hot water bottle, this morning im sweating buckets and nothing is bringing my temperature down which is sat at a firm 38.5. I have a sore throat fry cough and broken sleep. Worse symptoms are definitely the headaches and the hot sweats not to add the fatigue 😓. Luckily im off today and the weekend anyway but so annoyed to be ill on my days off and the warmer weather doesn't help with the high temperatures

lechatnoir · 14/07/2025 18:47

day 9 and feeling awful - the sore throat has at least gone but hacking cough, nose running like a tap (& consequently sore as buggery after 9 days blowing and wiping) a whacking great sinus headache and fatigue that has worsened over the past few days. I spent the first week on holiday yes travelled with Covid didn’t even occur to me to test thought it was just a cold so was ok just lounging about by the pool but now having to take time off work as I can’t focus on anything.
