Lost ability to smell

I'm sure I could of rephrased that slightly differently!
Anyway I had covid over four months ago and lost my ability to taste and smell , the taste is nearly back to normal. But I still can't smell properly.
I can spray perfume for example and immediately have a slight familiarity of smell but on second sniff absolutely nothing.
I've tried to rewire by sniffing strong aroma such as coffee, perfume etc and sometimes nothing and others a small recognition then nothing.
I'm getting impatient.
Any recommendations for getting this sense back ?

I lost it for a couple of weeks and I found it really depressing. I tried smell therapy, I got the essential oils on line and used them twice a day. Weirdest thing ever cooking and not being able to smell it 😭

It is depressing isn't it, I loved my scented bath or candle , but yes cooking and eating is strange without being able to have that sense of smell.
I'm also concerned about not being smell fire or gas , not rational I know.

It's very rational, I worried too. Smell keeps us safe!

I did the smell therapy but I'm not sure it helped. I don't know whether this will be good or bad news but I lost my sense of smell with Covid back in 2021 and it took a good couple of years to come back fully and properly. Even now I still get a weird cigarette smoke smell in my nostrils when I have a cold hanging round me, but I'm just happy to have my sense of smell back!

Oh goodness, I was sceptical it was a "thing" so in a way I'm glad ( not sure that's the word) that others have or had experienced this .
I too sometimes think I'm smelling onions or deep fat frying even though these things are not around, but as fast as I smell it , brain registering it , it then disappears and I doubt myself it happens.

It was all very odd at the time - things just tasted and smelt weird. I was worried it wouldn't come back, and it was a very slow process, but at least I got some entertainment from monitoring my progress as it returned gradually.
