How long is this latest strain lasting with ppl?

Help! I've got COVID and been feeling pretty lousy since Friday. Seems like symptoms are common to what a few ppl have said already on here. At first I thought it was hayfaver but then felt feverish, achy and now just feel totally wiped out.

Wondering - for those who have had it - how long they were out of action for? I'm trying really hard to rest and not panic about work, parenting etc etc but it's hard and keep worrying about how I'll cope if not back on my feet soon.

I was really unwell with Delta and out for about a month last year when I got it so hoping for a bit of a better ride this time! Fingers crossed x

Hate to say this but I now have viral conjunctivitis, which is related to having had the other virus. My eyes are bright red and very runny and have been for a few days. I look rather startling, but today there is a just perceptible improvement.

I don’t know what’s going on. My test was fainter yesterday then tested again today and got this. Been ill since 12th June but only tested positive on the 15th. I’m desperate to see my mum

I had exactly the same experience with testing too I was so frustrated amd worried but I finally stated getting better around day 16 of having it and still had the faintest line on a test I'm on day 19 now and haven't tested since day 16 for me it's such a slow process of getting better just started going for small walks. I'm def not 100 percent I'm pretty healthy other than this and a non smoker or drinker eat healthy and it's def got me. My partner smoker drinker eats crap and was not as il recovered within days and was back at work . I was happy for him but secretly peed off 🤣🤣

ruthietoothie · 03/07/2024 17:11

@Angieyy1 that sounds really frustrating about the negative and then positive tests. Hard to know what to do in that case. Does anyone feel like they pick up and then feel worse? That's been my story recently. Felt loads better yesterday and then feel super bad today which is day 13. Ugh x 190000000000

Yes, definitely been feeling better and then next day I’m exhausted again. Sore throat is back again today- day 15 - joy.

ruthietoothie · 04/07/2024 16:17

So sorry you're still suffering @Twoshoesnewshoes it's the worst isn't it. I really thought and was through the worst and now (day 14) feel as bad as ever. Had to go back to bed for a sleep this morning and feel incredibly achy and exhausted (also had a return of the sore throat). Hard not to feel panicky when the symptoms continue this long.

I'm like 4 days in and feel rough as a badgers arse.

4th time I've had it.

ruthietoothie · 05/07/2024 19:56

Sorry to hear that @WoozieWoo

How's everyone doing now? I'm on day 15 and still got such bad fatigue. And my sore throat is back again too. Feels neverending.

Jimmychoo69 · 05/07/2024 20:34

Everyone more or less recovered here. All tested negative on day 15 😫. However, DH, still absolutely shattered, Mum still shattered and me and Mum have been left with achy ankles and thigh’s 🤷‍♀️. Not bad enough for painkillers but still uncomfortable. Hope everyone continues to improve.

Endsofbells · 05/07/2024 20:38

I'm on week 3 and it's lingering.
I feel like I've aged 10 years.

ReformMyArse · 06/07/2024 20:54

This must be my 5th infection, day 3. Last night was the worst, the headache and sinus pain was difficult to get on top of. Followed a fever, similar to the other occasions. Feels much worse than all the other times sadly, despite lots of vaccines and pain killers (health worker). Bit short of breath on exertion and have lost all smell.

GlomOfNit · 07/07/2024 20:01

I'm on day 5 of feeling unwell here. But it's not as bad as some of you are experiencing. It's my third go-around (that I know of) and I was abroad when I started feeling scratchy throat, ulcer at the back of my tongue (I get that when I get a cold), tired and achey. Tested that evening with a locally bought test, negative, then again the next morning with a Flowflex and got an instant, dark positive line. DS has it too and we started feeling unwell the same time, so must be a common infection we were both exposed to. But luckily he has it a fair bit milder (he's 16). I've had a lot of congestion, sore eyes, extreme tiredness, earache (flying home was not fun!), sinus headaches, joint and muscle aches, and chest aches and an initially phlegmy cough which is now just an occasional drier cough, and the odd sneeze. I also have blocked ears and a muzzy head, and a lot of dizziness and spaced out feeling. It feels to me like a moderately bad cold. If it weren't covid I might not have spent the last 2.5 days in bed, since DS and I returned with the bug, but since DH is determined not to get it (FUTILE) I'm trying to keep out of his way and we're masking in common spaces. Takes me back ... Grin

I really hope it buggers off soon. NHS says that 'most people will not be contagious after 5 days' so perhaps we could take a calculated risk and ease off tomorrow...

Cheersmedears123 · 11/07/2024 09:33

I’m on day 4 and feeling crap again after a slight improvement yesterday. DH got it exactly the same time as me and can barely stand for more than 10 seconds. DS is now off school with it too and I’ve got to somehow keep working from home through the fog. Argh.

I had it really badly earlier this year so I’m hoping my immune system will fight it off faster. Quite a few friends had it this week too and all of them had one or two days of feeling crap and now they’re totally recovered! I’m so jealous.

ruthietoothie · 13/07/2024 17:43

@Cheersmedears123 hope you start to feel better soon!

How's everyone else doing @Angieyy1 @Upinthenightagain @ApolloandDaphne @Jimmychoo69 @ThankGodForDancingFruit @idratherbedrawing

I'm three weeks in now and still got low energy, achiness and loads of fatigue. I also having occasional bouts of breathlessness which something other than fun! Hoping to shift it soon x

OP posts:
molly5678 · 13/07/2024 17:55

Gosh me too, I’m nearly 3 weeks in and the fatigue is another level. Can’t stay awake fur more than a few hours at a time. Thoroughly fed up…hope everyone is keeping their spirits up
has anyone’s gone on for this long and did you have days where you thought you were better?

Cheersmedears123 · 13/07/2024 17:55

I’m coming out the other side now I think, so it pretty much lasted a full week which is better than last time. Although I feel very groggy, as if I’ve had a really crap nights sleep (I’ve actually been sleeping well despite the Covid). Hopefully this part doesn’t hang around too long. I’ve been keeping up with the vitamin C and D in case that helps with recovery.

Sorry to hear you’re still feeling it 3 weeks in @ruthietoothie I was the same when I had it a few months ago.

Angieyy1 · 13/07/2024 18:14

Hello, I'm better now and feel completley recovered other than feeling tired and aching legs if I go for a walk but then I haven't walked for ages so not sure if that would of happened anyway. I think I'm coming up to my 5th week although I'd have to check when I took the test. I started feeling like I was back to my normal self.last week other than getting out of breath and heart pounding if I did stuff that wouldn't normally cause that but that seems to have gone too now amd that would of been going into to week 4. Hope you're all OK amd recovering. It was a slow process for me, otherwise a healthy person none smoker and eat healthy. My immune system let me down 🤣

Angieyy1 · 13/07/2024 18:17

I forgot to also say I still have no sense of smell or taste back, I can however taste sweet, salt amd chilli I'm just glad I'm OK so that's not bothering me too much

Jimmychoo69 · 13/07/2024 18:26

@ruthietoothie sorry to hear you are still suffering. More or less fully recovered here, thank goodness. Mum has now managed 2 weeks at home, although I am doing her vacuuming and washing. Spoke to her today and she feels so much better today, less tired. I did buy her a bottle of Metatone, which she has taken x3 a day. Hope everyone continues to improve.

ruthietoothie · 13/07/2024 18:37

Thanks @Jimmychoo69 glad your mum is back home and doing better and you two. How many weeks was it before you started to recover properly?

@Angieyy1 and glad you're better too but five weeks is just such a long time! I'm feeling scared as school holidays round the corner and just hoping the fatigue has lifted by the time they start.

@molly5678 it sounds like we in a similar boat. I do have better days and worse ones. Yesterday I did a full days work and also had a school concert to go to in the evening. But have paid for it today. Shattered and feeling out of it and had to go for a nap this afternoon. Hoping it all changes soon.

@Cheersmedears123 glad to hear you're recovering. Hope you back to full health soon!

OP posts:
idratherbedrawing · 13/07/2024 21:37

I'm recovered - this time I was only unwell for a week max. Much better than second time I had Covid where I felt worse again after testing negative and was unwell for around 3 weeks and very tired for over a month. My DH got it worse than me this time. He's still feeling very tired despite testing negative over a week ago

Whatdoyouneedsonia32789 · 13/07/2024 21:40

About eight full days of feeling really unwell.

Jimmychoo69 · 13/07/2024 21:46

@ruthietoothie it has taken about 4 weeks to feel back to normal health and fully fit.

Hi @ruthietoothie! Thankyou for checking in. I tested negative 13 days after symptoms started (only tested twice, that second time to know I was clear to visit an elderly relative as I was feeling better). Me and baby both have an annoying tickly cough with stickyness, I can hear it in his throat. He’s full of energy and causing mayhem! I’m just tired.

Wishing everyone a speedy recovery!

molly5678 · 15/07/2024 12:10

How is everyone? I’m now bang on week 3 and still not shifting
feel so weak and generally bleugh, so fed up

Upinthenightagain · 15/07/2024 17:00

I’m 5 weeks in from testing positive but also managed to get an infection on top which I didn’t get antibiotics for because gp kept saying it was part of the covid. Finally a swab confirmed today what I’d been telling them and I got antibiotic. I’m really hoping I start to feel better now.
