How long is this latest strain lasting with ppl?

Help! I've got COVID and been feeling pretty lousy since Friday. Seems like symptoms are common to what a few ppl have said already on here. At first I thought it was hayfaver but then felt feverish, achy and now just feel totally wiped out.

Wondering - for those who have had it - how long they were out of action for? I'm trying really hard to rest and not panic about work, parenting etc etc but it's hard and keep worrying about how I'll cope if not back on my feet soon.

I was really unwell with Delta and out for about a month last year when I got it so hoping for a bit of a better ride this time! Fingers crossed x

I haven't tested but pretty sure I have it as I have lost my sense of smell/taste for about a week now. The week before that I went totally off my food, feeling sick. Then a couple of days of splitting headaches (couldn't even nod), then a day or two of sore throat, then an hour or so of mild chills.

Now my appetite has more or less come back (still can't taste or smell) but the worst lingering symptom for me is a mega congested nose! Congestion that doesn't seem to get better. Anyone else has had that symptom for more than a week? Normally I get congested for 2-3 days and then it eases off and then I have to blow my nose often. This time my sinuses feel like concrete. I can't wait for the congestion to go away and my smell/taste to come back.

Yes I'm still congested and my voice isn't great either I'm 15 days in. I've been taking clarytin the last couple of days

Tested negative yesterday (28th), I tested Monday for first time but feeling unwell since last Friday eve so I reckon I would have been positive then. Feeling a lot better, but still very snotty

Upinthenightagain · 29/06/2024 09:25

Day 12 here. I’ve been crying this morning because it’s getting too much. I’ve been up in the night every night with the kids who have it and seem to either be struggling to sleep or waking up with a temp and still feel shocking myself. It’s my birthday this week as well and we’ve had to cancel plans we had this weekend. Totally fed up of it now

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 29/06/2024 09:37

Dd has had it.

She tested negative on Tuesday. Still exhausted with wobbly legs and stomach ache.

ruthietoothie · 29/06/2024 09:59

I'm so sorry for everyone still feeling lousy. It really is the most horrid horrid virus. @Upinthenightagain I really hope you turn the corner soon and in time to salvage something of your birthday plans. I totally get and am with you in how horrible it feels to just have no energy day after day after day. Every day I wake up and think am I any better and every day the crushing fatigue just hits me again. Makes me anxious that it'll never end ... @idratherbedrawing great that you're on the mend now! Can give us hope! Take care everyone and @ArseInTheCoOpWindow hope things improve in your house too. X

I had it very recently, for the first time, and it was a beast. For me, paracetamol, sleep and ginger tea helped the most. Cut up some fresh ginger, simmer it for 20 minutes and drink with honey and fresh lemon juice. When I'm unwell ginger loosens phlegm, calms my cough, reduces nausea and just makes me feel better. It's worth a go.

Edit - felt much better after 10 days and went back to work after two weeks.

Foodaddict1 · 29/06/2024 22:10

Yes I had the same anxiety that I would never get my smell/taste back as I love food. But today: good news I could very faintly smell things and taste to some extent. Especially after blowing my nose. Which means it's coming back slowly but surely. I had to have a nap today though. Knackered and randomly anxious.

fourelementary · 30/06/2024 02:46

It’s taking around 2 weeks to clear here- maybe even a wee bit longer. And around 4 days between each person getting it. So between the family it’s feeling like it’s lasted forever. Varying degrees of severity but everyone has been fatigued, the adults have had temperatures and at least 3 bouts of diarrhoea but kids didn’t although they had stomach and headaches. Adults had cold symptoms as did the teenager. It’s horrible.

Jimmychoo69 · 30/06/2024 09:01

Finally turning a corner here 🤞. Had the best nights sleep last night in a week. It is 2 weeks today since I started with mild symptoms. Mum feels a lot better today, still tired but a lot brighter. I was beginning to panic that she would never improve. First morning that DH has woken up without a headache. When I think about where we were last Sunday regarding Mum, big improvement. It is taking about 14 days to shift this virus. Hope everyone is turning a corner. This thread has been so helpful.

Glad to hear your starting to all feel better, yes it was about 15 days that I started feel I was getting better 😊

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 30/06/2024 14:17

Felt crap for 7 days and still occasionally feel strange 3 weeks later. But the worst was 7 days

GreenSmithing · 30/06/2024 20:19

From first onset of "feel a bit under the weather" to "feeling normal and testing negative" - ten days. The worst days were days 3 to 5. Sense of taste reappeared on day 8 or 9.

I'm sorry that so many of us are suffering with it. @Forhecksake that almost exactly describes how I feel. I did two small tasks today and then had to go back to bed. It's grim and making me feel quite panicky. @Noosnom sorry you've suffered with it too. It's a long time to be out of action. @ThankGodForDancingFruit I'm sorry your ill and having to juggle a baby. That's always so tough. Sending get well soon wishes your way

Thankyou @ruthietoothie. Baby is much much happier and brighter, aside from some sticky nappies.

I however definitely have Covid, and have a full bingo card of all the symptoms now!

ruthietoothie · 01/07/2024 08:50

@Jimmychoo69 I'm so glad you're on the mend and your mum too! Agree that this thread has been super helpful and an important reminder that we not alone. I'm onto day 11 and still feeling really exhausted and it's that symptom that I am struggling with the most. Whenever I try and do anything it backfires with a nasty head.

Have been doing small bits of breathing work which I think have helped and have maybe brought out some cattarh which I guess is good?!

@ThankGodForDancingFruit so glad baby ok but sorry for you and hope family can help you rest around baby care. So tough being ill with a little one to care for

@GreenSmithing @Hungrycaterpillarsmummy thanks for sharing your experiences. Glad you both better

@fourelementary it sounds like you've had a really tough run of it. Take lots of care!

I tested positive a week ago and now testing negative. I've been left with a horrible cough and no sense of smell or taste. I really need to get back out and on with life but I'm so weary. Thankfully I'm retired so no job to worry about.

neverquiteready · 01/07/2024 09:13

Found an old COVID test this morning and positive straight away! On day 5 of being ill and symptoms seem to change everyday. Today feels more like COVID, burning up, fatigue and generally just exhausted. Meant to be back to work from 2 week holiday tomorrow but unlikely I'll be able to go into the office for a few days now.

Upinthenightagain · 01/07/2024 09:35

What feels like day 100 here. At the point of collapse doing two different school runs this morning. Still positive on the Covid test but fainter.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 01/07/2024 13:45

Day 13 here
worked a half day this morning and now back in bed! I’m just exhausted 😴

Clearinguptheclutter · 01/07/2024 13:49

Not me but am fairly sure my son had it last week (did not test).
he was horizontal for four days but then did an amazing recovery for the fifth day and went to school despite not being able to rk much at all on the fourth day

I am generally worried though as this is the third time he’s had if and it’s been a lot worse each time

ruthietoothie · 01/07/2024 15:19

OmG @Wonsunwell I've just made my first cup of ginger tea and it feels like it gotta do me some good. Fingers crossed! Thanks for the suggestion.

@Upinthenightagain and @Twoshoesnewshoes I completely empathise. It feels endless doesn't it. Can make me feel a bit like I'm going mad. Find it reassuring though to know I'm not alone.

@Clearinguptheclutter sorry to hear your son has been so poorly with it. Hope you can avoid.

@ruthietoothie that's exactly what my cousin said when she had covid and I suggested ginger tea.

Upinthenightagain · 01/07/2024 16:32

I don’t know what’s going on. My test was fainter yesterday then tested again today and got this. Been ill since 12th June but only tested positive on the 15th. I’m desperate to see my mum

How long is this latest strain lasting with ppl?
ruthietoothie · 02/07/2024 18:01

@Upinthenightagain I'm so sorry you had another positive test. That sounds so frustrating and upsetting too.

I think I tested negative on day nine! How are others doing? It's day 12 for me now and I'm starting to feel a bit more like myself but still just very tired. Also got really achy tired legs as if they're just not capable of doing anything. Take care everyone.
