Shingles Vaccine

Has anyone over fifty vulnerable persons been invited for the new Shingles vaccine ? Apparently there is a new vaccine that's not live and that is available to vulnerable over 50s. I was just wondering .

Yes, I've had it - at the same time as my Covid booster for the first part, then a couple of weeks ago for the second.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/12/2023 17:46

Yes, I got it because I'm deemed extremely vulnerable due to taking biologics and steroids for autoimmune disease.

My friend had it a couple of years ago, and it gave him
Shingles!

If it's not a live vaccine it can't give you shingles, so it can't have been the same one the OP is asking about.

Tremblingmadness · 18/12/2023 19:00

Yes, I have had it.

Slightly stiff arm if I tried to raise it above my shoulder, but only for two days. No other side effects !!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/12/2023 19:00

It can. It's one of the rare side effects.

ohimsohappy · 18/12/2023 19:03

It's the new one called Shingrix .

No. It can't. It's biologically impossible. Something that doesn't contain shingles cannot give you shingles. If someone gets this vaccine and gets shingles immediately it means the prodrome was already active in the body and it's just an incredibly unlucky coincidence.

Shingrix is not a live vaccine. It is biologically impossible to get shingles from it.

I think he had the Zostervax one. That is live.

ohimsohappy · 18/12/2023 21:51

I had shingles twice and paid privately to have the Shingrix vaccine, 2 injections 8 weeks apart. It made me feel quite unwell both times so I thought at least it was working.
Following all the guidelines of how long to wait I went in to have my third Covid vaccine, Moderna. Within 5 minutes I had a temperature and felt ill.
A week later I was devastated to start my third Shingles episode. Extremely painful and debilitating and the post herpatic neuralgia much worse this time.
Was too scared to have my fourth covid vaccine.
Shingles is horrible and please do get the vaccine if you can. But leave lots of time until your next vaccine. I have read that many people got shingles after their third or fourth covid injection…
