'In October 2020, while the Department of Health and Social Care was publishing guidance on long Covid and called for recognition and support for people with long Covid, then Prime Ministerr_ Boris Johnson scrawled in capitals that long Covid was ‘bollocks’.

“Adultss_ and children were and still are suffering from debilitating, painful and terrifying symptoms for months and now years after infection, and yet Mr Johnson denied the truth of their suffering.

Well it's not the sort of professional language you'd expect from the PM. However October 2020 was early in the pandemic, and there are a lot of people who thought, and still think, that long covid is just like any other post-viral syndrome and doesn't need a different name.

There was evidence even in oct 2020 that long covid wasn’t just like any post viral syndrome. Anyone who still thinks that even when we have a ton of physiological evidence is just misinformed.

I’d assume the DoH was aware of the early evidence in the document that Boris wrote bollocks on.

Boris was a complete arse as prime minister. This is only one reason, there were many more.

That's interesting, could you please to link to some of these studies?
Saw that 'long flu' was a thing in the paper the other day so it seems that there is just a normal long viral syndrome too?
Wish someone would be able to study or talk about the long term (and short term) effects of the vaccine, that seems like a much bigger problem...

Quick initial search brought up this from Oct 2020. The link to the NIH paper is at the bottom. It was widely reported on at the time. Given this seems to have been commissioned by the DoH I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a summary of it was what Boris scribbled ‘bollocks’ on.
Obviously given the nature of covid, post intensive care syndrome and post viral syndrome were always going to be an issue. But there is something with covid that goes beyond that and is linked to all organ systems.

Why sort of stuff do you want? Specifically stuff we might have known or suspected in 2020 or stuff we’ve learnt over the last 3 years? Long covid as in continuation of acute symptoms or as long term effects of a covid infection that might not be immediately obvious because people think they’ve recovered.

Long covid could be four different syndromes, review suggests

Long covid, the name commonly used to explain lasting effects of covid-19, may actually be four different syndromes, according to a review by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).1 A team of researchers and doctors reviewed current eviden...

The thing is, with Johnson, he could have either genuinely thought it was bollocks or just said that as he wasn't bothered. I remember his approach when all the pigs were going to be slaughtered (2021?) and he went from flippant to pretending not to understand.
