Is this how Covid is presenting now?

Trying to figure out what the heck has bowled me over! Testing negative for Covid on old tests (still in date) but I’ve heard that maybe old tests don’t detect new Covid?

Upset tummy, severe aches all over, hands so stiff I couldn’t use my phone, legs so painful I struggled to walk from the car park to Asda (thankfully improving now). Sinus pressure, brain fog, tired, fuzzy, can’t focus (still struggling with this). No fever, no respiratory symptoms other than a couple of sneezes! I got worse for 3 weeks before starting to recover.

GP ruled out other causes with blood tests. Basically told me to bugger off because it’s a “functional illness” ie nothing wrong. Is this how Covid is presenting now?

I have covid
Its terrible this time
Everyone that can should protect themselves

What is inaccurate about that?

That's not what I was calling out, I made that clear. Also just because it has floored you doesn't mean someone else will be affected in the same way to the same degree.

PictureFrameWindow · 29/09/2023 17:07

Little DC had a 1 day fever and sore tummy, we never even thought of covid.

Now the rest of us have mega headaches, sore throats, aching bodies, fatigue, hot and cold. Only one of the 4 of us are testing positive on LFT.

MedievalNun · 29/09/2023 17:20

I'm puzzled too. Having trouble breathing (asthmatic anyway so had to start rescue steroids), sniffles, headache and so knackered I can sleep standing up but testing negative (& new, in date tests). DD and DH both negative although both have flu-like symptoms and DD had a poorly stomach that was so bad she ended up in hospital being tested for appendicitis.

Thankfully I can work from home (when awake) but not what you need two months into a new job. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Errr well everyone I know that has covid is struggling in the same way that I am. I have just learnt my neighbour has been admitted into hospital.

Good for you if your experience is different but it’s weird to come on a thread with loads of sick people and minimise their experiences. Stop talking to me. I just don’t have the energy for it

healthadvice123 · 30/09/2023 11:41

Just tested positive today
started thursday late afternoon feeling not quite right and thursday evening really achy so took myself to bed with some paracetamol. Woke up feeling worse friday and fiuzzy head so took day off work, today took a test when i found one we had in sate , as now runny nose a bit more but feel a little better and came up positive straight away. Feels very much like a heavy cold but without a really runny nose. The body aches were the worse but are less now. Also have a bit of an annoying cough

Before Covid it used to be called a virus, they are not all covid

Hallelujah - exactly this. Why would you want it to be covid?

@Lastchancechica do stop it. We know covid kills some people. So does flu, another virus.

I can’t wait until you catch the latest strain, then let’s see how you feel about it then dear. Do keep quiet unless you can be supportive on a thread full of sick people or STFU 🙂

Here they are vaccinating 247 - 7 days a week so I damn well know they must be now aware of the issue. I guess they don’t want to cause panic.

I am so sorry you have been ill for so long op. I hope you feel better soon 🙏🏻

I really want some answers!

What happened to herd immunity?
What happens to our bodies if we are ill like this every year?
Why isn’t anyone being held accountable for this?
This has scared me because I realise they probably just don’t know…

Are you in the uk?

Day 2 for me, presenting as a heavy head cold. Started with mega sore throat and since then constant sneezing and coughing, streaming eyes and headache. No aches or brain fog.
Awake due to coughing

I’m a carer. I’m in my mid 40s and no underlying conditions.

I was invited for flu and Covid jabs, went along today and there was a queue out of the door of the doctors, so they are being done.

Op I had a stomach virus years before covid and felt exactly like this. As your tests are negative I'd say it's more likely not to be covid.

You need rest and fluids.
Do you have a partner or friend or family member who can go to asda for you or can you get a delivery? Whatever is wrong with you you really need to rest up if you can.

Incredibly busy here too, my dad queued for an hour for his at the doctors
I went to the vaccine centre and there was maybe 40-50 in the queue

Yes, new variant of covid is spreading rapidly here. Our residential homes are being prioritised by doctors and currently the pharmacies have also stepped up their vaccinations to 7 days a week.

I am so glad people are taking this seriously and getting vaccinated. I am still so ill day 10. It’s not fun but I will be fine eventually, but for others I hate to think how they would cope. I have lost weight at least 😊

PlugUgly1980 · 01/10/2023 05:39

I tested positive on old tests. I had no cold or respiratory symptoms, but every joint in my body hurt (knuckles in my hands were the worse) and my legs just felt weirdly heavy. I had headache and couldn't look at a screen or stand the light for two days. Maybe a mild fever, although it was hot outside so not sure. Spent two days in bed, but then felt completely fine again. Only tested for Covid as my husband and kids had more classic symptoms and were also positive.

Kaill · 01/10/2023 06:16

Hallelujah - exactly this. Why would you want it to be covid?
Because if your muscles are seized up and you can barely walk or use your hands, the other explanations are things like MS or worse. At least you can get better from Covid.

The GP initially thought I had a severe vitamin deficiency, then they thought MS or an autoimmune disease, or even cancer. But literally all of the tests are clear. So now they’ve decided it’s a virus, and Covid would be the one which is most likely to have freaky severe symptoms like this. But I’m testing negative.

I am not unsupportive, my posts on this thread are testament to that. I am however pointing out old tests still identify covid when it's new variants and that there are not 247 7-day a week vaccinations taking place and a campaign to hush things up. I won't STFU just because it suits your agenda. You seem to want to whip up a frenzy of fear and suggest there is a conspiracy to suppress information.

You can't wait for me to catch the latest strain? What a delight you are.

Its like a mosquito.
It’s not a campaign to hush things up, people are simply not interested in covid anymore. A vaccination campaign should be running much more widely and frequently in my view, because even the most conservative estimations of covid deaths this winter is very high. I can now personally see why having had this myself that this winter is going to be very tough.

I don’t know why you are even posting or interested if you are perfectly well 🤷🏼‍♀️

You can do it yourself by using google.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 01/10/2023 07:19

I've searched the UK government websites and can't find them - can you please share your source?

If it is any comfort, I have had exactly the same symptoms with flu. Another virus most people get better from.

This may help, although there doesn’t seem to be anything predicted to get alarmed about.

The next small peak in prevalence—of about 1.7%—is anticipated in early (13th) October 2023. The effective population immunity should remain at 95% for the forthcoming months. This speaks to an endemic equilibrium with seasonal fluctuations in prevalence—between 1.2% and 1.8%—over the next year.”

Felt ill for two weeks with sore throat, cold symptoms. Tested negative then last couple of days it’s on my chest and horrible sinus pains - can’t stay standing for very long. Positive test was instant today with high temperature.
