Is this how Covid is presenting now?

Trying to figure out what the heck has bowled me over! Testing negative for Covid on old tests (still in date) but I’ve heard that maybe old tests don’t detect new Covid?

Upset tummy, severe aches all over, hands so stiff I couldn’t use my phone, legs so painful I struggled to walk from the car park to Asda (thankfully improving now). Sinus pressure, brain fog, tired, fuzzy, can’t focus (still struggling with this). No fever, no respiratory symptoms other than a couple of sneezes! I got worse for 3 weeks before starting to recover.

GP ruled out other causes with blood tests. Basically told me to bugger off because it’s a “functional illness” ie nothing wrong. Is this how Covid is presenting now?

I'm nearly 2 weeks on and my throat has been awful all the way through. Feeling weak, blocked ears, dizzy as well as cold sweats (that could be menopause though). It's my second time and first was much easier.

Almahart · 29/09/2023 10:57

Apparently some strains of covid are not showing up on testing in the first few days, nor on nasal tests. So keep testing. I think there is loads about, I know people who have tested positive and people with the same symptoms who haven't. If you are entitled to a booster then now is the time to get one.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 29/09/2023 10:52

@Lastchancechica - incorrect: only the over 65s and those with underlying health conditions are getting the current covid vaccine so where is your information coming from?

Why are you scaremongering?

What are you talking about? Where did I say anyone under 65 has access to a vaccine? Unless they are clinically vulnerable. I have encouraged everyone that can have a vaccine to do so, for their own sakes.

I am seriously unwell at the moment. I am very concerned that we are going to see a very worrying problem develop this winter as this surges. I am super fit and young, and had no trouble with the other strains. I can’t imagine being frail and old and catching this. End of. It’s not scaremongering - I am speaking from my own personal experience.

Almahart · 29/09/2023 11:10

You can get a vaccine if you are a carer, and lots of us in this age group are caring for older parents, or disabled children, so worth being aware of that.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 29/09/2023 11:11

Here they are vaccinating 247 - 7 days a week so I damn well know they must be now aware of the issue. I guess they don’t want to cause panic. is what you posted @Lastchancechica so please don't be disingenuous when someone calls you out.

It wasn't 247 - 7 days a week when there was a mass vaccination campaign for all, not just the over 65s and those with underlying health conditions.

You are scaremongering and I am sorry you are unwell, but don't make things up.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 29/09/2023 11:11

You can just get the vaccine on demand either @Lastchancechica

That’s great news, get one asap.

If I could afford to I would run a publicity campaign myself. I know it’s a balance between the economy and health - and not scaring people but a few more adverts at least warning people is the responsible thing to do.

What? It’s not been available to buy here at least. Are you even reading my posts?

NigelHarmansNewWife · 29/09/2023 11:19

Balls - typo and too late for me to edit: you cannot just get the vaccine on demand either @Lastchancechica

Though it was pretty obvious from the context that was what I meant.

Almahart · 29/09/2023 11:24

I just booked mine and I would say around half the local pharmacies are offering them and all of those six days a week. It's usually only the local hospital. So it does look as if they are ramping up a bit.

Anyone that is over 65, clinically vulnerable or a carer should get vaccinated right now.

There is nothing contentious in hoping as many people as possible avoid becoming seriously unwell.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 29/09/2023 11:35

There is however, something contentious in lying about people being vaccinated 247 - 7 days a week in SW England and claiming it's being hushed up to stop people panicking.

Our residential homes are being vaccinated on mass? Are yours not?

The scale of this strain is not in most peoples consciousness yet, no. Combined with winter pressure it IS making me worry. Why wouldn’t it?

sonjadog · 29/09/2023 11:41

I had much the same symptoms as you, OP. Upset stomach for two weeks. Couldn’t walk the dog anywhere outside a three minute range of a toilet. That was fun (not).

Laurap39 · 29/09/2023 12:05

My covid jab was booked for tomorrow I’m a carer for my daughter and my husband is vulnerable but obv now positive for covid can’t have it for 28 days x

See, it's hard to give your posts any credibility when you keep changing tack. You still haven't provided any evidence of vaccinations being administered 247 7-days a week.

HeadAgainstWall0923 · 29/09/2023 12:21

I started feeling rough at the start of the week…just general lethargy and my youngest son was unwell too, constant sneezing, runny nose and vomiting. He had to take Monday off school.

My husband is a teacher and there are 10 staff members off with Covid at the moment so he suggested I test. We had lots left over from a few years ago so I tested both me and my son and they were both negative

My son was absolutely fine the next day whereas I just generally felt worse. I could function fine but I felt really tired.

Wednesday I had two episodes of diarrhoea during the night - very randomly - and when I woke up yesterday I felt so rough, really bad headache, my throat was
burning and I had a persistent dry cough. I felt that bad I had to get my friend to take my children to school for me and then pick them up.

I teated myself again yesterday and it was negative again.

Last night my chest felt tight, it still felt like it was burning, my sore throat was worse, I kept sneezing and the dry tickling cough was constant.

I’ve woken up this morning, feeling slightly better but my headache is still constant, I’ve got ear ache, a really sore throat still, I generally feel lethargic and my cough continues.

My husband has told me to test again as people seem to getting later positives this time round (?) but I haven’t as I can’t imagine it’s Covid.

But it’s frequency is definitely rising where I am, quite a few of my friends have had it over the last month and some of my children’s friends from school have been off with it too.

I am too ill to deal with your annoying posts. I have already told you in residential homes. Our doctors have been coming after hours to get everyone vaccinated. I won’t say it again.

Beaverbridge · 29/09/2023 12:25

I had every one of the classic covid symptoms, tested negative throughout. Dates on tests were all fine, did test properly. Took weeks for smell and taste to come back. Get latest booster tomo.

I'm sorry you're unwell @Lastchancechica however I take issue with being called annoying when I am merely calling out inaccuracies and untruths.

I have covid
Its terrible this time
Everyone that can should protect themselves

What is inaccurate about that?

DorisDill · 29/09/2023 13:38

I was shocked to test negative as quite a few people I know do have Covid with similar symptoms.

My eyes swelled up for days and were sore and itchy, as if I had an allergy but also with heavy cold like symptoms, and - it’s hard to explain - but a feeling of severe and sudden depression on the first day, I said to DH that I felt I was having some kind of breakdown and I didn’t know what was happening.. but later I started to sneeze and realised I was actually getting ill!

DorisDill · 29/09/2023 13:39

My DH has been off work all week (and a lot of his workplace are off with COVID) but he has a bad cough too and no swollen eyes, but also tested negative the first day that he got ill.

Except most viruses don’t kill millions.
