Covid?

I've had a minor headache for three days, which felt worse yesterday. I've put these symptoms down to the fact I'm in the middle of a massive fallout with my Mum and also Thursday teatime I had two large glasses of wine on an empty stomach, which I would actually expect to affect me the next day. Had a sore throat in the night. Half thinking it's the stress of fallout, but decided to do a covid test. It's clearly positive.

DH reckoned the above were down to the fallout, so suggested I test again. I've done two since, an hour apart and both clearly negative. DH negative and feels fine, DD won't test until she feels ill.

Not sure what to think now. Do you think I've got covid? I tend to use downstairs toilet, but this morning used upstairs bathroom and dried hands on towel DH and DD have used. One was in pub yesterday, the other on a late bus. Trying to convince myself they've brought it in on their hands.

False positives with lateral flow tests are highly unlikely - much much rarer than false negatives which can be very common.

I think you need to assume you've got it, and also that you've most likely had it since you started the headache a few days ago (you couldn't possibly have got to the stage of a positive test if you only got infected this morning). You may be coming to the end of it?

Sympathies for the stress, it can be really bad, and definitely cause headaches, but I wouldn't think a sore throat would be that as much. Even if it was stress, the positive covid test means you've almost certainly got covid as well as the stress, unfortunately.

Assume you have it. Very unlikely to have a false positive. Headache and sore throat is what I had to start. Feel better soon.

Thanks for your replies. Did another first this morning and definitely positive. I did the sensible thing and cancelled seeing SIL's family yesterday as her husband has health problems which he's having problems stabilising right now. Also, but work on alert I may not be in as I first job must be covered otherwise they can't open.

Really worried I've infected others, but I didn't even think about covid until yesterday. Luckily DD and DH seem ok right now.
