NHS 111 - Paxlovid

Has anyone had any experience of obtaining Paxlovid via 111? My mum tested positive yesterday (day 3 of symptom onset).

We contacted 111 yesterday who confirmed she is eligible for Paxlovid due to kidney disease and that she would receive a phone call within 24hrs from the team who organise the distribution of the paxlovid. Mum heard nothing so rang back tonight and was told it sometimes takes longer than 24 hrs and that even if the clinician she spoke to confirmed her eligibility, it would still need to be signed off by somebody else before it was prescribed. They said they would have another clinician ring her back to discuss but so far nothing.

If she doesn't get it soon it will be too late and I'm am so worried she will not get it.

Is this normal does anyone know?

Get on to the GP first thing if you’ve not heard

111 will refer to your local CMDU team. They will triage for eligibility-kidney disease may or may not be eligible depending on stage, co morbidities, etc. 111 do not know the full criteria. You count first symptom day as day 0 and then paxlovid is effective within 5 days. Although kidney disease normally wouldn't be suitable for paxlovid as it could affect kidney function in which case an iv infusion would be more suitable. No one can advise you - only the CMDU. Also anti vitals are offered on a symptom led basis as are not as effective if not symptomatic
