took a test

I first had covid 6 months ago. I was not that bad but it took about 2 weeks to recover. Two days ago I began to get what I would call covid symptoms. I have aching limbs and dont really feel like eating very much. Someone suggestedd I take a covid test so I went out in the pouring rain and bought a kit and came back and tested myself and it was negative. Now this evening I am getting a sore throat and have a slight cough. I guess that was because I went out in thunder and lightning rain to get a covid test kit.

I do not want to appear paranoyd but should I do another test? I will have to go out again to get another kit because the kit I bought only had one tjomg of solution. I did not realise this until I got home otherwise I would have bought two packs. The pharmacy said you cannot just take a test and trust that it is accurateee. He said do three tests and if all three are negative then you definatley just have the flue or a cold and its not covid

How are you today, Flute?

Sengi · 12/05/2023 12:31

You can order a box of 5 tests on amazon for less than £5. No leaving the house required.

Motheranddaughter · 12/05/2023 12:35

I would never test now but if you want to you will obviously have to go and buy tests

I think its very irrisponsible not to isolate. I would not dream of going near anyone if I was still testing positive.

Just isolate for 5 days in the absence of a test , you probably won't want to go anywhere anyway if you're feeling so rough. Thanks for thinking of others, feel better soon 😊

How are you today, Flute?

you can get kits online but if you have run out then you have to go to the pharmacy in order to test immediately

Paperlate · 12/05/2023 15:52

If you have Covid the chances are you were infectious before you know you have it, so to me testing is pointless now.

Just rest and drink plenty, the same as if you have a cold.

Flute56 · 12/05/2023 16:18

i am tempted to do another test but when I bought the kit yesterday there was only one thing of liquid in the box so i cannot do another test without going out to the pharmacy again , I really do not want to go out but for peace of mind I think I will just have to do it but this time I will make sure I buy two or three packs of kits. I have classic covid symptoms so not sure wyy I tested negative yesterday. I have something booked tomorrow with a friend and really want to go so this is another reason why I want to do another test because the pharmacist said do two or three tests and if they are all negative then you do not have covid. When I had covid before I caught it on the way back from a holiday mabe at the airport or on the plane. That was the second holiday I took since covid and never caught covid from my first holiday abroad

TheShellBeach · 12/05/2023 16:46

But Flute, if you've got something infectious, even if it isn't Covid, you surely won't want to risk your friend catching it?
And you're probably not feeling well enough to go out anyway.
Can you reschedule with your friend? I'm sure they would understand.

Flute56 · 12/05/2023 17:50

I took another test just now and it was negative. I dont think tomorrows test will be any different. Regards rescheduling, its not as simple as that. We booked to go to a seminar which is tomorrow and we are both interested in the seminar. She will still go but I want to go too. After my walk in the fresh air I feel slightly better thats why they say you should open your windows at home and not sit in a closed environment breathing in your own germs

You can get some on Amazon prime if you don't feel up to going out.

PickAChew · 12/05/2023 17:55

Well, if you do have it, you'd be sharing it every time you went to buy a test. A bit counterproductive, really.

Take the test, Op. Ignore all the pp's saying you don't need to isolate now so it's fine. Maybe we don't officially have to isolate but common decency and caring about not exposing people to civid should dictate that we do isolate. I think going out knowingly with covid is extremely selfish as iy could pass to someone weak or elderly and kill them. Well done, Op for caring about others.

plasticpens · 12/05/2023 20:49

Why such drama? You tested negative yesterday. You probably have a cold. Not once during the entire pandemic were people told to do 3 tests, you do one and if it's negative you get on with your day. Pharmacist is batshit, and trying to push sales.

gamerchick · 12/05/2023 20:53

Bothered about COVID but not bothered about infecting a load of people with whatever lurgy you've got?

Makes sense.

someone on here said they did more than one test. I think 3 and it was the last one that came up positive

I still don't really understand why you're willing to infect your friend with whatever virus you've got, unless it's Covid, in which case you're prepared to cancel meeting up with them.

Flute56 · 12/05/2023 21:43

ive decided not to meet my friend tomorrow and its not covid. I will stay home and rest

god that pharmacist is trying to milk more money out of covid isn’t he.

it’s up to you OP, other illnesses exist, you’ve tested negative, you had Covid only 6 months ago…that said when I had it for the 2nd time in March it was just like a cold and I tested negative first time too

I'm sure the pharmacist has nothing better to do than rip customers off. Maybe, just maybe he wants to protect staff and vulnerable customers.
Staff who may have to be off I'll. 🙄

Yeah sure 🙄🤣 “protect staff and vulnerable customers” by trying to flog more tests than people want to buy and unnecessary masks.

Don't be ridiculous, even in the height of the pandemic nobody was being advised to do a lucky dip of three tests to determine if they had Covid.

How is he protecting anyone by suggesting OP does 3 tests instead of the normal, advised, one?

What utter rubbish

You don't need to know any more. The World Health Organisation has downgraded covid. If you feel ill (whether from covid, flu, a cold or norovirus) then do what it is normally advised (stay in, keep warm, rest, paracetamol, good hygiene for not spreading it etc.). If you have vulnerable people you care for, then wise to not have contact (just like any other virus). That said, I have had (covid) for the past few days after last getting it for the first time in Oct 22, and I felt dreadful for a few days, particularly the achy limbs, paracetamol every 6 hours and loads of rest and hot liquids helped. I had a wet cold in Oct 22, but didn't feel as awful as this time. I am fully jabbed. I only tested because I had tests leftover from the bad times, and I have vulnerable elderly parents that I would normally visit daily. You don't need to test again, just look after yourself and avoid spreading whatever the virus is to others. Hope this helps, and get well soon.

Downgrading covid doesn’t make it any worse of a virus. It’s still killing a lot of people sadly and leaves vulnerable people even more vulnerable. It’s worse than the flu for the long term damage it does.

downgrading it just means it’s bloody everywhere. But, unless they sort the nhs, it’s going to break it every winter.

I would test for covid because of long covid. Average age is mid 40s and I’d want to know!

It can take a few days for the amount of virus markers to accumulate in your secretions and, then, become detectable by the tests. A test performed on day two may not pick up anything, but on day four may be quite clearly positive. As always, basic science gives you the answer.

if what you say is true then I most definately have covid. Thing is though when I had covid before, I tested positive on the very first testing. I felt exactly as I do now. My weekend plans have now changed because of this and if I do not feel any better by Monday then I am going to the doctors. I did try phoning `NHs 111 but the guy on the phone was useless so thats why I ended up posting on here
