I first had covid 6 months ago. I was not that bad but it took about 2 weeks to recover. Two days ago I began to get what I would call covid symptoms. I have aching limbs and dont really feel like eating very much. Someone suggestedd I take a covid test so I went out in the pouring rain and bought a kit and came back and tested myself and it was negative. Now this evening I am getting a sore throat and have a slight cough. I guess that was because I went out in thunder and lightning rain to get a covid test kit.

I do not want to appear paranoyd but should I do another test? I will have to go out again to get another kit because the kit I bought only had one tjomg of solution. I did not realise this until I got home otherwise I would have bought two packs. The pharmacy said you cannot just take a test and trust that it is accurateee. He said do three tests and if all three are negative then you definatley just have the flue or a cold and its not covid

Why do you need to know?

TheShellBeach · 11/05/2023 23:11

I don't understand why you're bothered about it.

SpecialControlGroup · 11/05/2023 23:19

More likely it is just that whatever virus you have is progressing. Thunder, lightning and rain don't make you sick

TheShellBeach · 11/05/2023 23:30

Going out in a storm does not make you ill!

Sunnycornwallanddevon · 11/05/2023 23:32

Blimey

A why bother
B you can't catch anything from a storm
C take some paracetamol and just go to bed

Flute56 · 11/05/2023 23:36

The reason I am bothered is that if it is covid i need to isolate and stay away from others

TheShellBeach · 11/05/2023 23:40

Hi Flute.
You don't need to isolate any more.
Just stay at home while you feel unwell. Take paracetamol and have lots of fluids.

That is isolating.

OP. It is important not to spread covid. Well done for thinking of others.

Flute56 · 11/05/2023 23:45

I think its very irrisponsible not to isolate. I would not dream of going near anyone if I was still testing positive.

Ok so go and get more tests then? Make sure you stay away from everyone! Don't touch anything! Wear a mask!
🙄

Flute56 · 12/05/2023 00:03

funilly enough when I went to the pharmacy earlier to buy a testing kit the pharmacist said why are you not wearing a mask and I said because I do not have one and he said you can buy them here and gave me a box and said put one on and I said is it reallly required and he said yes please put one on and he would not let me leve without seeing me put one on.

Some people test because they work or live with vulnerable people. It's common decency.

Itsanotherhreatday · 12/05/2023 00:12

If you have Covid stay away from people - if you have flu - stay away from people!

Whatever you have m, nobody else wants it regardless of its name.

Well that's strange because they can't make you wear one in a shop.

I'm surprised you didn't at least try to cover your mouth and nose if you thought you had covid and want to isolate away from people.

Also, a cold is a virus you can't catch it from being caught in the cold, rain, thunder and lightning.

I didn't realise people test anymore. I don't even test anymore. Just assume I have a cold and go about as normal like most other people.

He wouldn't let you leave the shop, to go outside, without wearing a mask?

TooOldForThisNonsense · 12/05/2023 00:31

god that pharmacist is trying to milk more money out of covid isn’t he.

it’s up to you OP, other illnesses exist, you’ve tested negative, you had Covid only 6 months ago…that said when I had it for the 2nd time in March it was just like a cold and I tested negative first time too

That does seem unlikely.
Anyway, how could he stop you going outside without a mask on?

Flute56 · 12/05/2023 00:39

I know some people who still test. Vulnerable people test regularly. I know a man who is vulnerable and he still isolates at home. He is too scared to mix with the public because if he gets covid he could be very seriously ill

It can take a while to show on a test. I had Covid a few weeks ago and took 3 days until I had symptoms and another 3 days until I tested positive on a lateral flow.

I don’t think it does any harm to carry on doing tests. Fingers crossed you don’t have it.

Yes, it is still a problem for some people.
But most viruses can cause serious complications in immunocompromised patients. It isn't just Covid.

sjpkgp1 · 12/05/2023 00:59

You don't need to know any more. The World Health Organisation has downgraded covid. If you feel ill (whether from covid, flu, a cold or norovirus) then do what it is normally advised (stay in, keep warm, rest, paracetamol, good hygiene for not spreading it etc.). If you have vulnerable people you care for, then wise to not have contact (just like any other virus). That said, I have had (covid) for the past few days after last getting it for the first time in Oct 22, and I felt dreadful for a few days, particularly the achy limbs, paracetamol every 6 hours and loads of rest and hot liquids helped. I had a wet cold in Oct 22, but didn't feel as awful as this time. I am fully jabbed. I only tested because I had tests leftover from the bad times, and I have vulnerable elderly parents that I would normally visit daily. You don't need to test again, just look after yourself and avoid spreading whatever the virus is to others. Hope this helps, and get well soon.

Just stay in then. Whether it's Covid or something else, you will pass it on to others if you socialize and have close contact.

I still test, partly because of my job but also when I visit vulnerable relatives and I agree it's selfish and irresponsible not to.

Be warned though that the recent strains are not being reliably picked up by LFTs.

That’s a shame, is he getting help for his mental health?

the vast vast majority of previously very vulnerable/shielded people are no longer in that situation due to vaccination, obviously there are still a small number though. It’s sad that people can’t move on from 2020.

Thank you. I know there are some who can't do this. I also know there are some who won't do this, so thank you.
