We got here yesterday and last night I started feeling ropey. My SIL is CEV and my FIL (who we are meant to be seeing tomorrow) is currently going through chemo.

I’ve just done a test and it is very definitely positive. I’m panicking and don’t know what we do. My DH is currently out walking the dogs with SIL and BIL.

not really sure what I’m hoping to get from this post but I feel awful about being the one that bought covid into the house and potentially ruined Christmas 😭

Air out the house and go home

Knockagain · 24/12/2022 14:07

Oh don’t feel bad - you haven’t done this on purpose and it’s almost impossible not to catch it at the moment.

BCBird · 24/12/2022 14:08

Yes. Open windows, get in car and go home. Were u negative yesterday? This can happen.

Catterpillarwithconverse · 24/12/2022 14:08

That's what tests are for.

Unicorn717 · 24/12/2022 14:09

How rubbish!! You'll have to go home and I'm sure they'll understand. Might not be great but it's the right thing to do.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 24/12/2022 14:12

Open the windows and go and wait in the car. You and DH need to leave.

Jules912 · 24/12/2022 14:13

Air out the house and go home ( assuming you arrived by car and DH can do the driving if you don't feel up to it).

pinkfong1 · 24/12/2022 14:24

Keep quiet, covid has been around enough now and the vaccinations have done a good job. I wouldn't even test anymore tbh!

What an ignorant comment. 😮

Hwory · 24/12/2022 14:28

@pinkfong1 Theres a lot of us that have CEV family members that could get very sick if they caught covid. Getting covid can delay their hospital treatments etc.

Absolutely stupid advice.

LargeglassofRosePlease · 24/12/2022 14:28

You need to air out the house and unfortunately go home my lovely. My husband currently has Covid and he’s been very unwell this week. Elderly relatives were due to be here for Christmas and we could not and would not take the risk.

This was unfortunate but thank goodness you
tested and you know. Especially given there are CV relatives who may become very unwell if they catch it .

Big hugs to you.

gamerchick · 24/12/2022 14:33

Yeah open the windows, wash your hands first. Do all of the touchpoints you've touched and get yourself home. I'm sorry man. That's sucky timing.

Yeah, potentially killing your FIL is a brilliant Christmas present.

What a stupid thing to say when OP is in the house with someone going through chemo....

Hugasauras · 24/12/2022 14:35

Text husband to tell him, pack up your stuff, open the windows, and when he's nearly home get in the car?

Tinselpipes · 24/12/2022 14:36

Open the windows and leave the house immediately. Presumably you were negative when you tested before arrival yesterday, it's not your fault. Hope you feel better soon.

toomuchlaundry · 24/12/2022 14:36

@pinkfong1 would you meet up with someone undergoing chemo when you had COVID? Do you not like your relatives?

PatchworkElmer · 24/12/2022 14:37

You need to go home. Really sorry.

Sparkletastic · 24/12/2022 14:37

Have you got a mask? Pack, air the room you are in and leave.

Are you stupid, callous, or both?

The OP has a relative undergoing chemotherapy.

Hugasauras · 24/12/2022 14:39

And incredibly irresponsible to suggest hiding it when someone is having chemo ShockShockShock my mum is on chemo and was rushed in to get antivirals as soon as she tested positive. I can't believe someone suggested you should stay quiet about it (although it doesn't sound from your post that you would contemplate doing that thankfully!).

LittleBitLostWithoutYou · 24/12/2022 14:39

You only started to feel ill after you arrived, it can’t be helped. As others have said, air the house and go home before you may feel too ill to travel. Hopefully no one else will get it. Feel better soon.

Hopefully nobody in your family is undergoing chemo then, you absolute bellend

CremeEggThief · 24/12/2022 14:43

I would definitely do what pinkfong suggested, IF I didn't know the people were CEV and were under-going cancer treatment.
