Everything I read on this says takes weeks to come back. Bearing in mind it's Christmas, do I have any chance of getting taste back by then?

Gutted. I am not expecting much over Xmas but I was looking forward to some rest and nice food 😭

Ours didn't take that long at all couple of weeks max. You might just be ok. 😀

TurquoiseBeach · 14/12/2022 01:17

I've heard varying times - so fingers crossed for you.

I’ve been ill with Covid for two weeks (just beginning to get over it). I completely lost my senses of smell and taste, but it’s nearly fully back now.

FlounderingFruitcake · 14/12/2022 02:26

I never lost my sense of taste but it’s been 9 months and I still can’t really smell anything!

Loachworks · 14/12/2022 02:28

Fourteen months and counting...

Mumma · 14/12/2022 02:39

I started taking zinc asap and it came back in a week. Apparently it helps

Mumteedum · 14/12/2022 06:57

Ohhh thank you for that... I'll get some 👍

Sorry not awake properly... That was @Mumma .

@FlounderingFruitcake and @Loachworks that sounds miserable. 😞

I will keep my fingers crossed. I'm so pissed off I have it.

Best of luck. It's so individual. Mine came back after 48 hours (in the meantime I was given kitty litter duty by the family). DH lost it in the morning and back the next day. My DDad was several weeks.

Thanks
BarrelOfOtters · 14/12/2022 07:25

Mine is partially back after 2 months. I can taste some stuff but not everything and some stuff just tastes weird. And my sense of smell is a bit off still …..

Mumteedum · 14/12/2022 07:47

God it's horrible at Xmas. I have other health conditions so I am not looking forward to anything much at Xmas. I was looking forward to some food treats though. I feel really miserable.

I'm so sorry for those in same boat. It is a real joy sapper (ha...as am I just now! Blush)

Mine was back fully in just under 2 weeks. I started smell training as soon as I noticed it had gone. Someone recommended it on this forum!

Hope you're better soon OP

CrunchyCarrot · 14/12/2022 08:55

Mine came back after 2 weeks, although I do have some 'blank spots' with smell but doesn't appear to affect my taste. I do occasionally get parosmia (phantom smells) but I find if I turn my mind to something else it goes away. It was totally weird to taste and smell absolutely nothing.

MissTiggywinkles · 14/12/2022 09:29

I’m on my third round of covid now. Both previous times my taste/smell has returned once the virus has gone (around a week). Quite typical to a normal cold really where you’re blocked up and can’t smell anything!
Hoping the same this time so I can enjoy some festive treats!

Welshgirl10 · 14/12/2022 09:37

I'm on for 2 weeks with no taste and smell at the moment, and not showing signs of coming back!

Mumteedum · 14/12/2022 18:27

I can smell essential oils (the good ones I have not the cheap rubbish) but nothing else. I can taste sweet and salt but not actual flavour. Horrible for people who live with this permanently...I had better not become one...! 😬

Hope you get yours back soon @Welshgirl10

Mine came back within a week I think, certainly not more than 10 days.

I couldn't even smell the nappies for a while there, which was a perk I guess!

tigger1001 · 14/12/2022 18:52

My eldest lost his sense of smell but not taste. Still not back a year and a half later

FortyFacedFuckers · 14/12/2022 19:31

My DS lost his in October 2020 and it has never returned!

About a week for me. It came back in stages!

Husband tested positive yesterday and says milk now tastes disgusting

Thank you- hoping to taste my Christmas dinner! Smile

I got covid whilst on holiday in Paris recently (😏) and it ruined all of the delicious wine, as my mouth tasted like metal for days.

Could taste/smell some things, but not others.

Finally thought I was out the other end a few days ago, ate a bag of cheese and onion Walkers crisps, and realised I couldn't taste it smell a thing?! So random!

Mumteedum · 15/12/2022 09:09

Ha...yeah I'm wondering whether to swap my nice Xmas wine for cheaper in my online shop...see how it goes 😆🤦‍♀️😭
