My dd(12) has been rough since last Thursday with covid symptoms. Hubby has it. She's tested negative all the way through but obviously has it as she as her dad. I've heard that some aren't testing positive with it now.

Yes I'm fairly sure it's covid. He has inly tested positive once in the summer but it was a week after his symptoms started. He also had a cough and really bad two week headache a few months before that.

My sense of smell went yesterday which makes me suspicious. When you cook something and can't smell anything but have zero cold symptoms.

Isn't there a flu / cold like thing going around at the moment?

SantasFlaws · 06/12/2022 19:12

I think this too. We all had it in this house - pretty sure it was all the same round of covid, but only 1/4 of us ever tested positive.

I mentioned to my Dr I'd had a positive test then the next day and day after two negatives,.he told me you are more likely to get a false negative test then false positive

Are you sure it's not the strep throat that's going around? How old is he?

elliesmummy19 · 06/12/2022 19:28

We’ve had similar. Negative LFTs. Just can’t shake the cough. I wouldn’t bother testing again.

DS has a bad cough and a negative LFT. Lots of his friends have also had a bad cough and negative LFTs. I'm assuming its a different virus.

A cough isn't a common symptom of strep throat

IncessantNameChanger · 06/12/2022 20:33

He is 15 and very rarely ill. He looks like death warmed up today, swollen eyes and grayish skin but it's only the cough he is complaining about. No sore throat. No real mucus. No temp. Not a cold and definitely not flu as he is shuffling around and seems quite smiley so I don't think he is in any pain. Just coughing so much he is finding it hard to catch his breath at times.

There's a bad virus going around, negative tests but all the same symptoms as Covid. I think it's mutating into something else. X

Hows it going? My daughter tested negative the whole time although same symptoms as her dad who tested positive. Both back to work and school weds but both feeling rubbish today. She's got a mild temperature again and her ear aches. She is still so blocked up with cold. Hubby feels grim.
I'm a worrier so was panicking a bit that it was something else but I wonder if its still covid in their system.
