I have it and I feel fucking horrific, like the worst flu of my life. I had it last year & didn't feel anywhere near this bad. Anyone else?

My colleague has it, she's currently looking horrendous on the other side of my desk. I feel sorry for her... I was off work for a week when I had it with horrendous fever and pain, covid is no picnic.

Miss03852 · 23/11/2022 14:48

Old thread but yes I have it, I’ve had it for two weeks! Not left my house, waiting for it to hurry up and go.

Mydogatemypurse · 23/11/2022 14:49

My two children are off with it. Im really hoping i dont get it and get sick as i have no one to look after them.

StrawberryPot · 23/11/2022 15:42

@Tdcp - your colleague has Covid and is in the office? I bet that's made her popular with everyone!

Tdcp · 23/11/2022 15:51

@StrawberryPot we're all fine with it? We can't keep taking weeks off work because of Covid, she could have come in with a really bad cold and we'd be just as likely to catch that :/

StrawberryPot · 23/11/2022 16:52

@Tdcp - I'd swap how I'm feeling now for a really bad cold any day of the week! I just didn't realise people carried on going to work with Covid 🤷‍♀️

I'd actually be quite cross with someone who came into work with a really bad cold. I thought the world had moved on and people no longer applauded sick employees 'soldiering on'.

Miss03852 · 23/11/2022 18:04

The guidance is now to take five days off as you’re only likely contagious for the first five days.

People don’t end up with “long cold” though a lot of people have ended up permanently damaged after covid, she should have atleast had the beginning of it off work when you’re most contagious.

tobee · 23/11/2022 20:37

Long covid is isn't a unique post viral phenomenon. Many people have had severe reactions after viruses throughout the ages.

StrongerThanYouTh1nk · 23/11/2022 21:38

I went back to work (remotely) on day 7. Got a negative today, on day 9. Not exactly feeling 100% yet but nearly there. Wishing everyone speedy recovery!

Mawface · 23/11/2022 21:59

I had it last week, felt horrendous - fever, achey everywhere and generally like shit but defo not as bad as last June when I was heavily pregnant. DD1 caught it was and very sick for a week, now after being negative for 6 days DS7 & DM have caught it. Strangely DS10 hasn't got it yet though.
Hope everyone feels better soon 🤞

First of all, we've all had Covid in the office, some a few times. I had it and was really quite ill with a high fever and pains for over 2 weeks, it's taken me months to 'get over it'. Others have been better, others have been worse.

Secondly, a lot of people don't have a choice other than to go to work. If you're on hourly pay or you have a system of sick days etc, you have to go to work. Our warehouse staff are hourly, if they don't come in, they don't get paid. They have no choice.

Thirdly, you're around many people that have Covid all of the time. Most people aren't testing so no one has any idea what they actually have, especially this time of year when colds / flus/ covid are so prominent.

We have to learn to live with it at some point.

StrawberryPot · 24/11/2022 10:31

I agree - but that doesn't mean taking a completely cavalier approach. We live with things like flu but I think many people would be unhappy about colleagues coming into work with it.

But then I'm speaking from the luxury of being able to take sick leave on full pay and I appreciate that this isn't possible for a great many people.

PauliString · 24/11/2022 10:48

Yup, I'm self-employed and struggling to do a full day's work even three weeks later. No work, no pay...

Swapshopped · 24/11/2022 16:17

does anyone have Covid but no respiratory/cold symptoms? I feel so icy cold, achy, tired and nausea
negative. LFT…

This is true. However, have there are a lot of people in UK with it right now. c.2m people with long covid. There is much we don't know, but it seems to be a longer term illness. Even this early into it, research has shown damage to the immune system, brain damage, increased risk of strokes etc etc even in asymptomatic cases. Lots of people seem hung up on the initial phase. My experience with the initial phase wasn't pleasant, but was manageable. My life right now? A fraction of what it was. I have a relative going through chemo - it is really shit - one of the horrid side effects of chemo is how much it knocks you out - she has more energy than I do.

SophiaLarsen · 24/11/2022 20:50

Day 13 here and testing negative. Persistent lump in my throat and feeling of utter tiredness. A 20 min dog walk currently taking 45 mins. Talking is the main exhausting thing. Worked my morning, finishing with a meeting and then had to sleep all afternoon when supposed to be working.

tobee · 25/11/2022 00:57

Yeah well I suppose I've been pretty hung up on the initial phase because my Dh is immunosuppressed and cev yet having to attend a dialysis clinic 3 x a week after his kidney transplant failed in 2019 @TurquoiseBeach and he has been told he is in severe danger of hospitalisation or death from the initial phase since March 2020 severely circumscribing our lives.

On the hand he has recently received his 5 jab which is probably just as well as he got covid for the first time (probably from said dialysis clinic) last Friday. All 4 of us now have Covid (first time). Happily he is doing very well, barely a bad cold, even without treatment that he was promised he'd automatically be triaged for.

So, who knows whether he'll in fact need to worry about long covid 🤷🏻‍♀️

tobee · 25/11/2022 00:58

*in fact I think Dh has suffered the least of us 4 (vaccinated) adults!

tobee · 25/11/2022 01:00

** none of us has much more than a cold not massively tired. So far. Maybe very lucky.

TurquoiseBeach · 25/11/2022 12:50

@tobee must have been very scary and glad your DH is doing well.

tobee · 26/11/2022 02:03

Thank you @TurquoiseBeach

HazeyjaneIII · 28/11/2022 01:11

In hospital with ds who has Covid at the moment, stupid fucking shitting virus.

IceReckon · 28/11/2022 01:16

Two weeks ago, was absolutely awful. Had it asymptomatically last January except a slight dry cough (and I mean not even enough to bother me)

MummyInTheNecropolis · 28/11/2022 01:30

I tested positive today, been feeling shitty for a few days. I’ve called in sick for tomorrow but work want me in as soon as I feel well enough (teacher).
