Anyone else considering not having this booster?

So 4th? one.

Just wondering really as I’m not sure how I feel about it. It seems like a lot to be pumping into my body in a short space of time.
I had Covid booster plus flu jab last year. DH didn’t have flu jab or a booster last time.
DS has never had any

I feel that 3 covid vaccines plus having had Covid this summer has given my immune system enough antibodies! I'm not keen on any more vaccines, unless a more dangerous covid variant emerges - but then the vaccines would need updating first!

TinaYouFatLard · 31/10/2022 17:39

Nope. No more for me.

No thank you.

(interested to note it’s being encouraged in a mumsnet promoted post too.(

Unsurprisingly this is not the first place I come for medical advice and I’m certainly not swayed in favour of having it by those banging on about it on this thread either!

I feel the opposite for the same reasons. Why on earth would I listen to those banging on about not having it rather than medical professionals? Booked for next week

We keep hearing the vaccine reduces transmission but over 80% of the population which is mainly vaxxed has had covid so it clearly doesn't reduce it to make any real difference. If over 8 in 10 of the Uk population have a virus and everyone eventually will contract it or 99% will, what use is it banging on about transmission reductions? The greater good argument has well and truly been blown out of the window.

The only logic for taking it is personal protection. Many of the people suffering seem to be those who have had multiple vaccines yet say how they were " floored by covid and it would have been even worse had they not been vaccinated". There is no real evidence supporting that. The virus is milder which is the main reason deaths are reduced. I don't know any vaccine which starts to wane in 10 weeks meaning people are up to jab number 6, most last over a decade like polio.

I'm not anti vax as I have had other vaccines, with this I haven't had 1- I contracted covid once and it was a case of the sniffles for 1 day. What logic is there me taking a vaccine when between 80 and 90% of the Uk population have had covid despite a mass vaccination programme. I'm continually reading about horrific side effects of the vaccine yet the vast majority of people not elderly have no issues with covid at all. I'd have to be barking mad to take it but each to their own, I've genuinely lost count of how many boosters people have had.

sashh · 31/10/2022 10:47

Don't people understand that covid is mutating? That's why we need to keep getting the vax, in the same way as the flu vaccine protects against the strains of flu predicted to be circulating.

As for never having it, do you know? Did you check every day for the last couple of years?

After the first covid jab my carer and I had a day when we both felt lethargic and fluey, the same day for both of us, but we'd been vaccinated a week apart. I think we just got the same bug.

I didn't get the first booster (jab no. 3) and I am not intending to have another unless I need it for travel.

How many jabs will some people end up getting - 10/15/20/30?

Indeed, it's all becoming increasingly silly. I wouldn't take any vaccine for travel personally but each to their own

Veggieburgers · 01/11/2022 01:56

I had my fourth a couple of weeks ago. If I'm offered a fifth, sixth, seventh, I'll happily take it. So far I have avoided covid, unless I 've had an asymptomatic case and am not aware of it, and I want it to stay that way.

Do you have any evidence for this?

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 01/11/2022 02:00

I have had 3 already and not having the fourth one. I had flu vaccine last week is more than enough for now. I got covid from work and was very bad even though I had 3 vaccines

All the more reason, then, to keep up with your vaccinations.

JannPlace · 01/11/2022 02:15

I work throughout the whole covid, "Property Management." Did not get any shots. Still dealt with people face to face, and thank the Lord has not got covid. If you feel the covid shot works for you by all means get it, but I won't subject myself to that..

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/11/2022 02:42

I'm eligible and will probably have the 4th one, though not until a year after the last which takes me to next spring (if they're still available then)

And whether they'll still be needed for travel will largely affect my decision so I'll be keeping an eye on that too

Evidence that covid has become milder? Have you been living in a cave?

SusanYorkshire · 01/11/2022 03:09

If everyone is going to contract covid regardless of being vaccinated or not, there is no argument left for protecting others with a vaccine that has left over 80% of the Uk population having had covid, just your own health.

If the argument is " it reduces severity of covid" then that's a personal decision and nothing to do with anyone bar the person taking the vaccine.

If the argument is " Taking the vaccine protects the NHS" , it's an incredibly weak argument and drinking/smoking should all be viewed as similar " crimes" if taking this vaccine is viewed in such a light.

The greater good narrative has no defence left, leave it to other people. I don't care who takes it , but I'm relieved I made the decision not to take one let alone 6

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou · 01/11/2022 03:19

No, I wish I hadn't had any of them. I only did as the country I live in (SE Asia) enforced it so I would have lost my job if I wasn't vaccinated. I felt dreadful after my first one, vomited everywhere and was shivering and in pain. I've had covid twice and felt totally fine.

HerRoyalNotness · 01/11/2022 03:28

I already feel shit with autoimmune diseases so I take the vaccines as I don’t want to feel more shit from long Covid or a bad case. Got mine last week, felt a little tired. Middle child was done had a bad headache for a day only. Had flu shot the same time

polkadotpixie · 01/11/2022 05:16

I had the first 3 but won't be getting anymore. I'm 38, healthy and only slightly overweight (BMI 26) so I don't feel I'm at risk. I'm only eligible due to working for the NHS

I've had COVID twice and it's been very mild both times. DH has also had it twice mildly and he is unvaccinated. I'll continue to get my flu jab though because flu made me really ill when I had it so it seems worthwhile

MavisChunch29 · 01/11/2022 05:22

I'm not eligible to get one. Probably would have it, if offered.

Mummieslncorporated · 01/11/2022 09:12

I'm seriously considering not having it this time round.i had COVID two-ish months ago. That's probably a better immunity booster than the vaccine tbh.

That's good- that you felt fine with Covid. Shows the vaccines you had worked.

Course it did. I didn't have my vaccine and that's why.... What? I had mild symptoms, rather than no symptoms...

How many jabs will some people end up getting - 10/15/20/30?

I had my 4th covid (3 Pfizer and a spikevax) and flu jabs together a few weeks ago. Apart from a sore arm and feeling a bit weary the next day (it was a Saturday after a very busy week so I probably would have felt weary anyway) there were no side effects.

I have my flu jabs every year as I work for the NHS and have done since 1997 - so what you’re asking doesn’t sound at all unreasonable to me in terms of numbers of vaccines.

if they keep adjusting the covid vaccine in the same way that they do for the flu vaccine I’ll be happy to have an annual update!

Frosty1000 · 01/11/2022 15:36

I'm not hearing they are offering it to under 50s anytime soon so no I won't be having it for ages. I will decide when they do.

sparkellie · 01/11/2022 15:48

Not for me. I had the 1st jab, slightly reluctantly, but for the sake of the people around me, rather than myself. I had chest pains and shortness of breath for months after, and struggled to get through an hour at the gym. So I didn't take the 2nd, or booster.
I had covid in April this year, and though I was tired for a couple of days, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as flu for me.
