Flu or covid

A riend of mine is not feeling well. Its mainly a fever between 38 and 39. She has some body aches too but no other symptoms. She does have a sore throat or cough and she's not sneezing. Her tummy is good and toileting is ok.

There's something happening the fact that she's fevering and it's fairly stubborn too.

She hasn't really been around people with flu so I can't see how this could be flu.

I wonder if this could be covid but it's not showing on tests yet. Did anyone else here experience similar - fever and body aches and turned out to be covid?

Sorry, yes, that's how mine started 3 weeks ago, positive next day. The other symptoms developed more slowly. Has she got a headache? That was really the first thing. I was told by a doctor that this variant is more like flu but he wasn't seeing the blood clots etc of earlier waves.

I hope she feels better soon, it is miserable and unfortunately drags on.

Thank you for the reply. Fever started yesterday. There's no headache. There's still no result on a home covid test.

She will never know unless she does a test. Both symptoms are the same.

RuthW · 21/10/2022 12:13

Sorry didn't see ehe had done a test. If still neg after a few days it's flu

AriettyHomily · 21/10/2022 12:16

Could be flu, covid or something else.

It took 4 or 5 days of feeling awful before I got a positive covid test.

RedRiverShore2 · 21/10/2022 12:42

DH and I both had a temperature between 38 and 39 for 3 or 4 days, DHs went over 39 for a while, mild sore throat and cough, headache on and off, positive test after about 3 days, I was fairly well after about 5 days and DH is much better now

WellErrr · 21/10/2022 12:43

Does it really matter anymore?

Going to the hospital in case there's another infection going on. Prone to bacterial infections and the possibility of sepsis.
Hopefully it's just covid brewing for us and nothing too serious.

It's a pain in the ass trying to establish what's what. My friend is feeling reasonably well except for the fever.

Am I missing something, why the hospital, is the fever not coming down with paracetamol?

The fever is stubborn. Its not coming down with paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Going to the hospital in case it's another infection.

Could she maybe ring 111 or the GP rather than going to hospital? It's likely to be a very long wait
