How long after fever/chills started did you test positive?

Obviously might not be covid, but I've woken in the night with fever and chills and wondering when to test. Anecdotally have heard people feeling unwell for a few days before testing positive and don't want to waste tests.

It took my husband three days to test positive after those symptoms.

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 03/10/2022 05:58

@Pollywoddles thanks for your reply. Did he get much more ill? At the moment they're the only symptoms for me.

I tested positive the first day.

Imissmoominmama · 03/10/2022 06:00

But I also had a temperature and a cough. It hit me with all it had! I’m on day three now 🙄.

ElsaPink · 03/10/2022 06:12

3-4 days from the onset of symptoms for me. He

Dollydea · 03/10/2022 06:14

I tested positive the day after symptoms started, but it took almost a week before DH tested positive after feeling ill.

monkeyblonde · 03/10/2022 06:26

Who's testing anymore?!

ChakaKhanfan · 03/10/2022 06:29

I had temp and sore throat for four days before testing positive. I then felt really weak for two days before testing negative four days later.
I only tested because of my job,

PalatineHill · 03/10/2022 06:34

I hate the fact that most people aren’t testing. Long covid is a growing problem and covid isn’t going to be just a bad cold for everyone. Tests should be available free or at least subsidised.

OhamIreally · 03/10/2022 06:38

I think there's flu going around now. I had what seemed like classic Covid- sore throat, cough headache. I was off work for a week- I have never had a full week off sick before. Tested 3 times over the course of the week and negative each time.
I've heard others say the same.

KangarooKenny · 03/10/2022 06:41

I was positive before I got the chills

Who's testing anymore?!

Me... lost a family member to it last year and have other vulnerable relatives 👍

I've tested, it's positive. Apart from the chills I've just got backache so far

Poor you
I've not known anyone get covid for ages but there are definitely bugs going round. No masks and probably less hand washing and the bugs are coming back

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 03/10/2022 07:41

@FredaFox inevitable with the time of year I guess. Just hoping this bout provides some immunity and I'll be safe for a few weeks afterwards at least 🤞

Same day. I felt fine Thursday, then Friday I started with a strange taste in my mouth Friday morning and by Friday tea time I had a cough, fever and shivers so I tested and it was faintly positive.

Jules912 · 03/10/2022 14:47

Both times symptoms started in the afternoon and first positive test the morning after ( though second time didn't test before then as was home with a sick child anyway).

ElizabethBennetismybestfriend · 03/10/2022 15:36

Tested positive this morning. Fever, aches splitting headache. Should be going on holiday today.😥

Who's testing anymore?!

Clearly the people on this thread are. Along with others. Hope this helps. OP wish you better.

@FishFingerSandwiches4Tea - me too. Certainly don’t want to give it to my elderly parent who is having cancer treatment.

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 03/10/2022 17:11

@ElizabethBennetismybestfriend oh no, what rotten timing. Hope you get well soon

About 4 days

VerifiedBot2351 · 03/10/2022 17:49

Two days for me.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 03/10/2022 19:42

I had a sore throat at 23.00 last Tuesday and was testing positive at 01.00 the next morning. I tested because I work in healthcare.
