How contagious is the latest strain?

My partner has tested positive just wondering what the changes are of me avoiding it ?! How is this version compared to delta last year? We had that and it wasn’t too nice.

Couple I know have both got it. they isolated from each other as soon as first ill. Isaw one of them earlier in week but distanced - i feel like i have started symptoms but negative at moment. so will wait and see if i test positive or a different bug

Who knows.
DH had never had it until a month ago (to be fair he seldom leaves the house). We went to a crowded restaurant while on holiday and he got symptoms two days later. We shared a bed, then a car for 4 hours, then we didn't isolate at home because he wouldn't test as it was only a cold. I persuaded him to test on the grounds that he might like to know if he had had it. Big positive.
I didn't catch it.
Then I went out to a busy restaurant 8 days ago and I came down with covid two days later. So my experience was it seems easy enough to catch if you are in a room with a lot of people and no ventilation, but not so easy at home.

It doesn't seem all too contagious but there appears to be no rhyme or reason to any of it.

Back in March 2020 DH caught it. We weren't isolating in the house and only DH caught it. Pre-vaccines.

I had Covid last week and DD1 caught it but DH and DD2 didn't. Again, no isolation.
