Has anyone else felt starving during Covid??

I tested positive earlier this week, initially it felt like a heavy cold but I’m now feeling quite nauseous and dizzy. But I’m really hungry, like I just want to keep on eating. Luckily I haven’t (yet) lost my sense of smell or taste. It reminds me a bit of pregnancy sickness, which I had quite badly and could only be managed by eating. Has anyone else had this??

No I went off food completely, still tasted normal I just didn’t feel hungry or even fancy anything. I ate a lot of fruit as that was all I could stomach, it lasted about 5 days. The few people I know who have had Covid in the last two or three months have all said the same.

I ate tonnes, yes! Loads of chocolate too

Dogsgottabone · 08/09/2022 20:24

I did. I put on pounds, all I could eat weee sweet things and very salty things as the taste went almost everywhere except around the outside edge of my tongue.

So I lived on toast with salty butter and chocolate digestive biscuits. I wouldn't normally like those as they are far too sweet.

I had covid last year when the taste and smell went.

Yes! Salty (marmite) toast is one of the things I really fancy to eat. Definitely not chocolate though.

Yes- I couldn’t stop eating

Yes I gained weight! A couple of pounds. I was absolutely ravenous and as you say it reminded me of early pregnancy - feeling starving yet sick. It was so weird. I did lose my sense of taste which made it even more bizarre.

Yes I was constantly hungry. X

fadingfast · 09/09/2022 10:06

@35965a how long did your loss of taste last? Mine seems a bit dulled but otherwise still there. Feeling impatient to get it all over and it’s only been four days since I tested positive!

It lasted about 2 weeks, for a week it was totally gone then the second week it gradually came back so hopefully it will be quick for you. It’s very frustrating being so hungry yet not being able to taste anything.

No I went off food totally for 3 weeks and lost a stone. I couldnt even face chocolate. Unfortunately my appetite is now back with a vengence!

BlooberryBiskits · 09/09/2022 10:42

Yes - lost my appetite for 1st couple of days, then had a huge appetite (for carbs) which I have into: biscuits, flapjacks, toast etc - gained a couple of pounds (which I’ve since lost) but I think it was my body wanting quick energy to fight the infection

Eat whatever you fancy & make sure to have plenty of fruit, veg, protein & healthy carbs too to help you recover quickly

Nope. Off food completely with it - I'm usually a total foodie.

MrsMacnair · 10/09/2022 13:07

I’m still recovering from covid but yes my appetite increased but, although I was starving hungry struggled to eat as I couldn’t friggin taste anything. Also have had a really upset stomach throughout so when I do eat my stomach starts doing somersaults!

Thankfully taste is coming back slowly!

Dh was the opposite and struggled to eat anything as his appetite disappeared although he kept his taste.

BeyondsEnergyObsession · 10/09/2022 13:10

I was completely off food for the first two days, then ravenous for the rest. As with some upthread, it reminded me of during pregnancy

Scarlettpixie · 11/09/2022 09:35

I am still recovering (day10) and i only went of food for a day. Since then I have had a good appetite although no energy to cook so we have been eating ready meals, jacket spuds, bread or toast, cereal and things you can just pop in the oven. I have also been eatting more sweet and salty snacks but I am just going with it (crisps and biscuits). The only thing I have gone off is coffee.

Lilacsunflowers · 19/09/2022 10:44

I was very hungry when I had covid too. I assume my body was fighting hard so needed extra energy! Thankfully I didn't gain any weight, so my body must have needed the extra fuel to fight the virus.
