Can't afford lateral flow tests

DHs mum is in a care home. We're in wales if that's relevant. Seeing her regularly. Always take a LFT before as we're required to. One part of the family, DH's cousin, are on the absolute breadline and are due to run out of LFT soon. They can't afford to buy anymore. We will help them out but also don't have bottomless pit.

Does anyone know what the health care sector are planning to do? Can cousin get more for free? There must be a process to deal with this. You surely can't have to pay to see a loved one in care?!

If you’re required to take them before a hospital visit, then they are free, is it not the same for care home visits?

I've no idea. How would we get hold of them online?

My Nans care home will give you after test there. Local authority, but not Wales

*a test

www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

If they have an impaired immune system you are eligible for free ones.

I'm a carer (actually am) and still get mine free from gov. You apply online and they get sent to you. Just saying.

Thanks all. I've managed to order some online for free. I clicked on 'a doctor or hcp has advised I need one'. I took that to mean we've been asked to take them by the home owner so that's covered by that. Much happier now. Will give link to family member.

Go onto gov.uk and order them saying you’re a health worker you will be sent them for free …. I can’t afford to buy them either so I justify the little white lie 🙈

Is she in a care home in Wales? (It's not clear if both you and your DH mum are in the same country).

If so, my mum is in a care home in Wales and they provide the LFT at the door, free of charge.
