Taking cold/flu medications for Covid?

I've just tested positive for Covid for the first time. At the moment I have symptoms like a heavy cold: runny/stuffy nose and sore throat. No significant cough, no temperature and my taste and smell still seem fine. I am thinking of just taking some cold & flu medications to help with the congestion and to keep temperature stable. What did others do to self-treat at home?

Yes that sounds sensible. OTC cold/flu remedies give symptomatic relief, rather than curing the disease itself and they’re fine for anything with the same symptoms.

Just watch out for paracetamol, as a lot of them contain it, and you need to make sure you don’t exceed the safe (cumulative) daily dose

I tested positive a few days ago and had similar symptoms to start but with a cough and have now lost my sense of smell and my taste is very dulled down. I'm alternating between ibuprofen and paracetamol of some kind (either straight paracetamol or cold/flu type depending on how I'm feeling when it's due). Also plenty of fluid and napping when I need! I'm trying to eat relatively well too as figured it would make me feel better than filling my body with junk. I hope you feel better soon Smile

Thanks both! I was wondering about my sense of smell but my nose is so bunged up, that could be contributing. Things seem to taste normal and I have an appetite. Interesting that you describe it as dulled @timeforchange2022, that could be it. I'm trying to rest and generally look after myself so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Lemsip got me through - so yes, I would. Didn't help with the loss of taste through (SLOWLY coming back now).

Lemsip max alternating with ibuprofen really helped me!

I did this too, though write down what you had and when. When the brain fog kicked in I struggled to remember which I was ok to have.
