Covid positive am I being unreasonable?

I have an event at the weekend we all have tickets. My friend got covid last week and has a bad cold and cough and still testing positive. I realise guidelines have changed but I told my friend that if she's still testing positive the day of event I'm not prepared to car share and go with her. She's took a hissy fit. I said it's unfair to spread it. I don't think I'm being unreasonable. You cant board a plane , go on a cruise etc. Am I being unreasonable? I have not been near her and don't want to catch it and its unfair if others catch it.

When last week did they get covid?

Tbh depending on that, then as long as she's not actively ill (e.g running a temperature) then I don't see why she couldn't go

LovinglifeAF · 02/08/2022 19:10

How long will it be? People can still test positive if no longer infectious.

tbh you can get it anywhere, I have given up any attempt at trying to avoid it when the only place I’d been before I finally got it was the supermarket.

Cw122 · 02/08/2022 19:17

I think your friend is being a bit selfish to be honest. Just because theoretically she can go out and about doesn't mean that's great for other people. I had a friend recently meet another friend for a concert in this exact circumstance and she got covid from him. I think it's your friends choice to go out and about and it's your choice to distance yourself until they test negative. We still aren't allowed in our workplace if testing positive and I wouldn't socialise until I was testing negative incase I put someone vulnerable at risk.

Jalisco · 02/08/2022 19:28

She went to a concert full of people, but definitely caught it from him. Yes. Sure.

Planes don't require tests before boarding. Neither do boats / ships. If you don't want to go with her don't. But she got covid last week. It's this week now. And the event is at the weekend. So be clear that the chances of her being infectious now are remote. Unlike, say, for example, all the other people at the event.

If you were really that bothered, you wouldn't me going to the event.

Cw122 · 02/08/2022 19:42

She caught it from her friend who was covid positive who she spent the day with? Yes lol yes she did... is that not common sense?! It was either that or another covid positive person but I figure it's most likely the one she was standing beside? 😂

ApplesandBunions · 02/08/2022 20:36

If you think there aren't people boarding planes having had recent positive tests, I've got a bridge to sell you. Also, by going to a big public event like a concert you are choosing to encounter covid and lots of it. So you can't be that arsed about it.

That said, you've no obligation to go in a car with anyone if you don't want to. You can choose the manner of your covid exposure and it doesn't matter if anyone else thinks you're BU.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 02/08/2022 20:49

She shouldn't go, and she's obviously a dick for considering it

Sitdowncupoftea · 02/08/2022 21:41

As far as I'm aware you can't board a plane if your covid positive not a cruise. She's full of cold with a bad cough. It's not a concert it's a sit down event that is still respecting people's space as vunerable people will be in attendance.

You are not supposed to IF you have a positive test. But since tests are not required now then you are incorrect as there is no policing of it, just as there isn't anywhere else. It doesn't matter what kind of event you are going to - it is full of people and the odds are that someone will have come into contact with covid. The only way to avoid covid is to lock your doors and stay at home. Your post was also not about the "vulnerable people" at the event - it was about not wanting to give her a lift in your car. If you don't want to give your "friend" a lift then don't. But don't dress it up in something else. You have no evidence to suggest she will be infectious from last week, and if you wanted to be absolutely certain that you can't contract covid then you don't go to events.

Of course you can board a plane after a positive covid test. Who do you think is policing it?

Anystarinthesky · 02/08/2022 22:01

I woudn't go with her either.

Sitdowncupoftea · 02/08/2022 22:02

@ApplesandBunions I'm not sure where you have flown to or from but I know people who had to provide a negative test or no flight home that was two weeks ago.

Ginger1982 · 02/08/2022 22:04

It completely depends on the country you're visiting. Many have no testing requirements now.

Sitdowncupoftea · 02/08/2022 22:09

@jalisco I'm dressing nothing up.There is no evidence to say she's not infectious read the original post. I have said if she is still positive on the event I won't be going with her. Going to an event with a positive LFT is wrong in my opinion. Would you share a care with someone who tests positive ?

If double vax I can’t think of one country needing a negative test

yabu

and precious

vulberable are 3.4,5 x vaccinated

if they’re still anxious over covid they should stay home

people can fly with covid there are no rules or tests. I know 3 people who’ve flown with covid in last two weeks alone

Watapalava · 02/08/2022 22:12

You are not even supposed to test wit voice so yes YABU

watermelonlipbalm · 02/08/2022 22:14

I agree that I wouldn't feel overly comfortable going somewhere with some who is positive and unwell. Obviously I don't want to be poorly, I'd feel the same of it was a tummy bug.
I do however think you're being unreasonable telling her she shouldn't go. If you feel uncomfy then you should make the decision whether you want to go or not not dictate to someone else.
I bet there will be many others there with covid...
Also just image how she must be feeling having been poorly all this time and then you telling her she shouldn't go somewhere....

Like I said I understand your point but I don't think it's right to tell someone else what they should be doing.

I've just flown to and from spain and no test was needed if had 3 vaccines.

Luckypoppy · 02/08/2022 22:24

Sorry pressed send too soon. I do agree with you though depending on when she tested positive.

yonce · 02/08/2022 22:25

You can test positive and no longer be infectious - that's been covered so many times, she could be testing positive for weeks. If she got her positive early last week and the event is now this weekend that's a fair amount of time elapsed.

You don't need a negative test to get on a plane / return to the UK - there's definitely people with covid on planes. There's people with covid everywhere!

Notonthestairs · 02/08/2022 22:30

Flight requirements are neither here nor there.

If she's still testing positive on the day I wouldn't want to sit next to her.

Last time I had covid I was rough as hell for 10 days, passed it in to family and frankly I'd prioritise other things.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 02/08/2022 22:32

i think your being a tad over cautious, she tested positive last week it’s Tuesday today the weekend is 3 days away so Is it a week or longer since testing positive? . Your assuming too much before you know I’d just say can you test again on the day and let me know .
also as others say you don’t need to take a test to fly if fully vaccinated for most countries any more.

Yes, there are some countries still requiring that but it's absolutely not a universal requirement. Additionally, there are UK domestic flights too. As I said, there are people testing positive and flying, and not being stopped.

AgathaBrazen · 02/08/2022 23:02

Currently approx 1 in 20 people in the uk have covid. How many people are going to your event? 1 in 20 of them will be knowingly or unknowingly covid positive.

If it bothers you that much, don't go.

And it's very unlikely your friend will still be contagious by the weekend.
