My DD13 had covid vaccine 5 days ago and has tested positive today!

Has this happened to anyone else and were they OK? I took my DD for her second vaccine a few days ago in the morning, unfortunately by that evening I was feeling unwell and tested and it was positive. My DD has now caught it from me as she was negative 2 days ago but positive today.

I am concerned as they say you must wait 12 weeks after having covid before having the vaccine. Why is this? Is she in any danger of having a really bad reaction or being very unwell? She is sleeping at the moment but so far been achey and has a cough.

I know someone who actually had covid while getting vaccinated and was absolutely fine. If it was important they would make us all test before getting done.

Thank you @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor you make a good point. Good to hear the person you knew was fine, its hard to find any info via Google or on the gov site.

Yes, I do know someone this happened to. They were fine. Covid ran its course and life went on!

My son tested positive 2 days after his vaccine, wondered if he got it in the queue!

He was fine.

My ds 16 tested positive 2 days after - he was immediately poorly after the vaccine but we had thought it was side effects. He had a rough few days then was ok.

The reason we don't like to vaccinate when someone has or has recently had Covid is the risk of increased side effects - as the vaccine side effects you have are your body's reaction to fighting the (perceived) virus (and thus creating the antibodies), which would mean a double whammy if your body is also dealing with the actual virus.

The main thing I would watch out for is symptoms of myocarditis or pericarditis, as there have been a (very small but clinically significant) amount of cases post mRNA vaccination (and Covid infection) in teens and young adults (mainly male) due to an exaggerated immune response. These are:

Chest pain
Difficulty breathing
Rapid breathing
Heart palpitations
Fainting

@inigomontoyahwillcox thank you for the info, I'm glad I now know what specifically to look out for. Thanks everyone else for your responses, I'm glad to hear it's not as uncommon as I thought and that all your experiences were OK.

I know people who have got covid not long after being vaccinated. Strange eh? Some have been fine, but a 9yr old I know didn't do very well and has got a few issues going on with blood and vascular issues.

I tested positive 2 days after booster shot, thought I was feeling after effects of vax the night of the shot but then I developed sinus symptoms and did a lft just incase!! Was pretty floored (delta) but no worse then my husband was when he had covid 6 months previously with no vax!
