How long will I show as positive on a PCR test? Due to fly next Thursday and need negative PCR

Hi

I tested positive for Covid yesterday. Not sure when I 'caught' covid exactly but felt run down over the weekend.

I am double vaccinated but need to have a negative PCR to fly abroad next week (as destination requires triple vaccination or negative PCR).

Am I likely to still show as positive on a PCR by next Tues/Weds?

Thanks

It can take up to 5 days to show on the app but most show the same day or next day. Buy insurance immediately although it won’t cover you for something you already know about (although there may not be a paper trail at this stage). There will be a paper trail if your take a PCR and it is positive

This is why you get travel insurance. Really stupid

I feel bad for you that you might have to miss your holiday when you're probably not going to be a covid risk to anyone but have to say I think you are mad for not having any travel insurance when traveling to somewhere like Morocco ( or traveling anywhere outside the UK) You can get it for about £10.

Have you ever bought travel insurance? Could you have bought an annual policy in the past 12 months without remembering, which covers you now (that luckily was the case with a friend who recently needed a hospital stay in France and would have been liable for 20% of the 6000 Euro bill) Could you have it through your bank?

You cannot have a booster if you are testing positive, you have to wait 28 days after.

My daughter had her second vaccination when she was testing positive. I couldn’t believe it: she didn’t know she had it until she went to the vaccination clinic. They did it anyway!

Cookerhood · 27/07/2022 11:53

The only reason for not having it for 28 days are that the side effects might be worse, or indistinguishable from the infection, it won't do any harm. Did they test at the vaccination centre?

PCR came back negative and I did end up purchasing single trip insurance.

Morocco was fab but very very hot!

Other countries don’t have such strict timelines between Covid and vaccinations.

I tested positive on a Sunday and was negative on a LFT on the following Tuesday. Not sure what a PCR would have shown but you can clear the infection quickly in some cases

Delatron · 03/08/2022 14:31

Ah I see the trip has happened! Pleased you were negative. There’s a lot of worry about PCRs staying positive for weeks but that’s not always the case as you have shown.
