How long are you actually isolating for?

Just that really, if you test positive how long are you isolating for? I have friends and relatives (some of who are vulnerable) but still wanting to meet up a while I’m still testing positive. I haven’t seen anyone or been anywhere yet (I’m on day 5) but am hearing of people just not testing and assuming after 5 days they’re fine. I don’t want to put anyone at risk.

My plan is isolate for 5 days I’m a couple of days in and if I feel well to return to normal but not intentionality meet with anyone vulnerable until after 10 days

I plan to isolate until I test negative. First time round I was positive until day 11 and still very symptomatic at day five.

XenoBitch · 09/07/2022 22:47

I only went out to walk the dog for the first 5 days. No shops, and didn't meet anyone.
I have been going to the shops now though, and after day 10 I will meet anyone who wants to.

It’s that million dollar question isn’t it ?
the guidance says go out if symptom free after 5 days but be careful around vulnerable ! But tempted to test negative first? - but going stir crazy as I feel fine but day 3 did a sneaky test as husband thinking I was fine to go out and more positive than day 1 but symptoms gone !

KylieKoKo · 10/07/2022 00:11

I think if I had it again I wouldn't meet anyone socially until I'd tested negative. I would also avoid going into any shops unless I absolutely had to. I might consider going for a walk or something if I felt up to it but would stay away from people.

I'm day 3 of isolation and after 5 I'll probably go to shop if I need to , but keep a low profile this week and meet up with people next weekend I'll be a good 10 days by then . My DF is vulnerable so I'll not see him this week .Can wfh if need to so lucky in that respect . Taking dog out now, late at night .

slavetothekittens · 10/07/2022 15:23

Am on day 4. If I had to, I'd go out tomorrow masked up and avoid people, but I don't actually think I'd be able to get to the gate without falling over, my legs are so wobbly!

Marymary987 · 10/07/2022 15:28

I tested positive yesterday, planning on only walking the dogs this week and keeping away from shops and people until at least next weekend.

wetotter · 10/07/2022 15:35

I barely left the house until 2 days of negative tests after day 5 - it took 8 days total.

I only went out at odd times to a wide-open space to toilet walk the dog

There is no way that I'd knowingly meet someone vulnerable before that. Other people maybe briefly outdoors if there was need, but not for trivial non-essentials. And a gap of less than a fortnight to social life is trivial.

Harder if you can't WFH, but if you're actively ill (eg temperature) I'd wait, as for other illnesses, until I felt better and unmedicated temperature had been normal for at least 24 hours

LottieTx · 10/07/2022 15:45

I tested positive on Saturday, 2 days after I had some minor symptoms. I’m now symptom free so will be back out and about but with some extra precaution - staying outside, no busy places, no visiting family, on Thursday which will be day 5.

Theimpossiblegirl · 10/07/2022 15:48

I'm on day 5 but have been expected to work. I'm a teacher. In my school, we're told not to test and don't need to isolate. Nor do the children.
If we're ill, we self certify but it counts as any other illness.

Purplecatshopaholic · 10/07/2022 15:55

I’m on day 8, still testing positive and still feeling shit. I’m not planning on going out/where people are just now. If I was feeling better I would WFH but feeling rubbish so will likely take a few days off this week.

SmallestInTheClass · 10/07/2022 17:19

I'd say five days for normal shopping, work etc but if I was going to be in really close contact with someone vulnerable (eg in a care home) then I'd probably give it 10 days.

Gladioli23 · 10/07/2022 17:23

I'm now 8 days in and still not well. I haven't tested for a couple of days but am gonna test again tomorrow and see where I am. Mine were starting to go less positive by late Friday than they had been on Wednesday.

I am thinking of giving it 10 days and then giving up even if I am still testing positive - some people test positive for weeks or months.

Neolara · 10/07/2022 22:59

Until I tested negative, which (surprisingly) was at the end of day 5. I'd assumed it would take much longer..

roundandrounditgoes1234 · 11/07/2022 12:51

ditto here - positive Wednesday negative Monday

JustDanceAddict · 11/07/2022 13:38

I hope to be able to be away on Sat, it’ll be day 7.
