Anyone lost taste/smell recently?

I've currently got Covid for the second time. First time round was in the Delta wave and I lost smell and taste completely at the time. Smell took a couple of months to come back, full taste about 6 months.
Now I've got it again and 4 days in, I lost taste again. Not as absolute as last time, but very much reduced. Smell is off a bit too, but not as much. I'm assuming i have one of the newer Omicron variants and reading about them, smell and taste loss seem to be less commonly reported symptoms so I'm feeling a bit hard done by (especially as i have pretty much the full house of the other symptoms including the gut ones).
Just curious if anyone else has experienced this with the recent strains, and if so, if it came back quickly or not? (I know there's no guarantee I'll be the same, I'm just interested.)

my sense of smell has not returned properly since I had COVID in January...

I completely lost my sense of taste when I had it a few weeks ago - was my trigger to test - but only partially my sense of smell.

Returned after about 2 weeks.

I tested positive on Thursday. First time getting it. Taste and smell
are not gone completely but not normal either. Everything tastes bitter - couldn’t finish a cup of coffee this morning as it tasted so horrible.

I’m on day ten. I can make out if things are sweet or salty and feel the warmth of spice but I can’t tell any intricacies in flavours. It’s all very bland. I can’t smell a damn thing.

I have covid and my taste and smell have almost gone. I hadn't though about it till I read your post - I just thought I was making rubbish cups of tea and my cooking was a bit crap this week 😄

Still no taste/smell 3 weeks post covid

Oh gawd.

Just lost mine, about day 5 of my second attack of Covid. Last time I didn’t lose it completely, just went weird - everything tasted of either perfume or disinfectant, but recovered quickly. (Unlike the rest of me, which has had long Covid for well over two years.)
I’m hoping it recovers quickly this time, as I’d like to smell the roses and honeysuckle in my garden before they finish flowering!

Sexnotgender · 02/07/2022 15:33

Yes, lost mine 2 week ago. It’s back now.

DotBall · 02/07/2022 15:33

I had covid last september and lost taste/smell.
Taste came back within a fortnight but sense of smell hasn’t recovered all, these months later. I have bad days and slightly less bad days. I’m gutted.

RiojaRose · 02/07/2022 15:46

I had covid in March. Lost about 90% of taste and smell. They still haven’t come back.

MrsAvocet · 02/07/2022 16:33

Thanks all. There's obviously a wide range of experiences but seems it's not that unusual to be losing taste and smell with the current strains. I feel a bit better in every other respect today so hope its not going to be a long term thing.
Get well wishes to all who are suffering.

I’ve got covid for the first time, I’m on day 8 smell went on day 4 but can just about smell tiger balm now taste is muted can taste sweet things but that’s about it.

Tgilaura · 02/07/2022 17:09

At the other end of the spectrum to some of the other responses on here so far (I feel for everyone who has lost their smell and taste for an extended period of time 😞) my husband and I have just recovered from covid and we both lost taste and smell, but they returned after 5 days or so.
I wonder what affects the length of time people lose it for?

ticktickticktickBOOM · 04/07/2022 23:42

Just to say after losing my sense of smell and taste 4 days ago (on day 5 of covid) I tonight faintly smelled the bolognese cooking and have had strawberry jam on toast to celebrate.

So all in all just 4 days loss

Blackalice · 04/07/2022 23:45

I tested positive 2 weeks ago. Lost smell on day 4 but didn't lose taste. After 2 days smell started to creep back then came back completely on 3rd day.
