Isolation guidance = 5 days after you test +?

Am I right in thinking the 5 days recommended isolation starts the day after you test positive? So the day you test positive is day zero? Ie. If you tested positive today, isolation period would end next Tuesday?

Just trying to plan for potential scenarios. I was with a colleague for most of last Friday who then tested positive on Tuesday. I started to feel a bit off last night, have sore throat but tested negative this morning.

DH has a special birthday next Wednesday and have theatre tickets booked so thinking through things. I can exchange the tickets but need to do so by Monday.

Hi OP. Yes that's my understanding the day you first have symptoms or test positive is day 0, although legally (in our Country anyway) there is no requirement to isolate anymore.

I have just recovered from Covid, currently on day 11 since symptoms started and it was horrible. Hope you all stay well 😊

Ok. So my day zero could be today/yesterday then given that’s when sore throat started. So if I test positive tomorrow say my isolation could still end by Tuesday?

Know I’ll just have to see how it plays out but really would be nice to have my husband’s birthday as we planned! Hoped it would be the first big birthday not to be impacted by Covid (don’t worry. I know it’s not the biggest deal in the world, would just be nice though).

Yes you are correct but honestly don’t think anyone is paying attention anymore.
Some people will still be infectious long after those 6 days (including day zero). others won’t. Is totally arbitrary. I think we just need to make our own decisions as to what is best.

Thanks. Will see how I go. Personally not going to go to a theatre if I’m positive and/or unwell. We can reschedule. It’s not the end of the world.

For school it's 3 days now

It's 3 days for school. There is no law now I don't think, you can just get on with your life.

Grumpybutfunny · 16/06/2022 14:31

You just get on with your life now if you feel up to it. If I was vulnerable I wouldn't be going to theatres etc at the moment
